Supply Chain Leader (Director)

Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supply Chain Director for our Spring Grove, IL location. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and executing procurement, acquisition, and distribution of raw materials and services. Additionally, you will design systems to support multi-site operations and inventory levels, participate in improvement activities, negotiate contracts, develop strategic relationships with suppliers, and monitor market trends.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Create and implement a supply chain model to optimize production capabilities, protect markets/customers, and provide value through access to materials and services.

Establish strategic partnerships with suppliers, distributors, and customers for market collaboration and operational improvements.

Create and manage contracts to ensure operational efficiency and timely product availability during high market demand periods.

Negotiate supplier agreements, obtain competitive pricing, and monitor quality and performance.

Improve business systems to enhance inventory investments and operational versatility.

Monitor commodity market pricing and developments in metal production and removal suppliers.

Manage scrap material resale process and relationships with scrap dealers.

Identify and develop new supply sources, both domestically and internationally.

Conduct supplier reviews and recovery plans when necessary, and provide information to internal teams.

Create and maintain performance metrics for suppliers and the overall supply chain.

Optimize inventory strategies to balance cash flow, supplier relationships, and availability.

Provide technical support and industry trends to internal teams.

Educate and train employees on procurement and supply chain methodologies and tools.

Conduct vendor visits to ensure alignment with company specifications and Quality Management Systems.

 

 

 

Requirements:

BA/BS degree in Operations/Business/Supply Chain Management or a technical discipline

7-10 years of experience in Purchasing & Sourcing within a manufacturing organization

2-4 years of recent experience in the Metals Industry

Moderate knowledge of the steel making process, metallurgy, forging, heat-treating, machining, NDE, and metrology processes.

Experience in a multi-plant manufacturing environment with steel purchasing.

ISM (C.P.M., CPSM) and/or APICS (CPIM, CIRM, CSCP) certification preferred

Strong business understanding of the metals industry and its impact on topics such as cash flow and return on investment.

Knowledge of ERP / MRP systems, JD Edwards experience preferred

Demonstrated continuous improvement skills and project management experience.

Excellent communication skills to liaise with various teams and stakeholders.

Proficiency in MS Office.

Ability to work safely in a heavy manufacturing environment
