Survey Party Chief
Looking for a Land Survey Technician to join our team in Fargo, ND. This position involves surveying on highway and roadway construction projects, operating surveying instruments and equipment, and entering data into computer software.
Responsibilities
- Lead field survey crews in conducting plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects.
- Execute all Survey and Layout activities as instructed.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control tasks for 3D modeling and grading.
- Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with the project team.
- Delegate and supervise work, providing input for the evaluation of field survey crew members.
- Train survey crew in survey and mapping methods, equipment usage, and field safety procedures.
- Collect field survey data using conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods. This includes setting up, adjusting, and operating surveying equipment such as electronic total stations, data collectors, and GPS devices to measure distances, elevations, and angles.
- Compile field notes and create drawings.
- Conduct field surveying for various projects, including buildings, roadways, bridges, and flood control structures. Tasks include installing surveying construction stakes, verifying existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control points, right of way markers, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines.
- Perform complex surveying calculations using an engineering calculator and laptop computer.
- Prepare final grade sheets, topographic maps, survey records, corner records, and other survey reports.
- Conduct research on existing record information such as maps, plans, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents. Maintain field data records, survey project files, and indexing systems.
Experience/Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of survey experience, with experience as a party chief.
- Developing understanding of field instrumentation, GPS, and robotic total stations.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Experience in earthworks or civil construction.
- Technical school diploma/certificate in a related program is a plus.
- Valid Driver's License required.
