A Financial Services company is in search of a skilled SENIOR STAFF ACCOUNTANT who has a true passion for assisting small business owners in managing their financial affairs. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of tax return processes. Responsibilities:
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
As a "back-office" accountant/CFO, you will be responsible for overseeing multiple small business clients. Your main tasks will include:
- Maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts.
- Preparing journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations, including monthly closing processes.
- Contributing to the development and review of annual operating budgets and performance projections.
- Meeting processing and reporting deadlines for payroll, payroll tax returns, and sales tax.
- Responding to information requests, reviewing financial statements, and assisting with internal audits.
- Performing year-end financial reviews, preparing depreciation schedules, and handling tax return preparation for various types of business entities.
- Ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Addressing tax notices on behalf of clients.
- Participating in client meetings, whether in-person or through virtual platforms like phone and Zoom.
- Conducting reviews of client deliverables prepared by bookkeepers.
- Assisting the managing CPA as necessary.
- Providing training to bookkeepers and interns when required.
TAX SERVICES
- Collecting tax forms and maintaining thorough client paperwork records.
- Following firm procedures for obtaining tax documentation from all tax return clients.
- Conducting tax intake meetings to ensure the acquisition of necessary paperwork for various client circumstances.
- Using Lacerte to enter client tax data and performing diagnostics to ensure accuracy.
- Collaborating with the team to ensure seamless flow of tax returns and meeting deadlines.
- Identifying potential tax credits to maximize tax benefits for clients.
- Providing tax solutions for complex tax issues or errors resulting from incorrect tax filings.
- Identifying legal tax-saving opportunities and recommending strategies to improve profitability.
- Ensuring clients' compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Staying up-to-date with tax changes and industry trends through educational opportunities, professional organizations, networking, and professional publications.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, with 3-5 years of accounting experience in a fast-paced accounting firm.
- Thorough understanding of financial statements and general ledger accounting.
- Demonstrated meticulousness and proficiency in analyzing financial data, coupled with the ability to effectively engage with clients.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to take full responsibility for high-volume client deadlines and reporting.
- Capability to accurately track billable time in increments of at least 15 minutes throughout the workday.
- Ability to handle multiple clients and tasks simultaneously, including transactional bookkeeping and accurate processing of tax returns during tax season with attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the capability to explain complex tax matters in clear terms.
- A team-oriented, kind, dedicated, and loyal approach to work, with the availability to work at the office.
- Proficiency in Excel, QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, CCH, and Lacerte.
- Annual Continuing Professional Education (CPE) provided by the company.
- Additional qualifications such as EA (Enrolled Agent), CPA (Certified Public Accountant), or progress towards obtaining these designations would be advantageous.
