Tax Manager – Public Accounting

Job Overview:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Tax Supervisor to join our dynamic tax team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in public accounting, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in tax compliance, planning, and research. As a Tax Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in delivering tax services to a diverse clientele, including individuals, corporations, partnerships, and S-corporations. This position presents an excellent opportunity to lead a team, manage client relationships, and tackle complex tax matters while contributing to the overall success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Compliance & Reporting:

    • Oversee and manage the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns for various clients, ranging from individuals to corporations and partnerships.
    • Ensure the accurate and timely filing of tax returns in adherence to tax laws and regulations.
    • Thoroughly review workpapers and supporting documentation to maintain completeness and accuracy.
  • Tax Planning & Consulting:

    • Offer tax planning and consulting services to clients, assisting them in optimizing tax strategies and minimizing liabilities.
    • Provide guidance to clients on diverse tax matters such as mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, tax credits, and international tax issues.
    • Identify and implement tax-saving strategies for clients in accordance with any changes in tax legislation.
  • Client Management & Relationships:

    • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through proactive tax advice and exceptional customer service.
    • Act as the main point of contact for clients, addressing their concerns promptly and offering timely solutions to complex tax issues.
    • Lead client meetings and discussions, effectively communicating tax issues in a concise and understandable manner.
  • Team Leadership & Development:

    • Supervise, mentor, and train junior staff members and senior associates, providing guidance and reviewing their work.
    • Conduct performance reviews and assist in developing career progression plans for team members.
  • Research & Technical Knowledge:

    • Stay up to date on current tax laws, regulations, and IRS rulings to ensure accurate advice and compliance.
    • Conduct comprehensive research on intricate tax issues and deliver practical solutions to clients.
    • Assist in the development of internal processes and policies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Special Projects:

    • Lead or assist with special projects, including tax audits, tax provision work, or other ad hoc consulting projects.
    • Collaborate closely with other departments (audit, advisory, etc.) to offer comprehensive services to clients.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Possessing a Master's in Taxation or an MBA with a taxation focus is advantageous.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax within public accounting.
    • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
    • Preferred experience with tax software (e.g., ProSystem fx, CCH, Thomson Reuters).
  • Certifications:

    • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license is mandatory.
