Tax Principal (Public Accounting)

Location: Long Island City, NY

Job Summary:

Our top 50 Public Accounting Firm is seeking a qualified and experienced Tax Principal to join our team in Long Island City, NY. The Tax Director will assume overall responsibility for managing engagements, staffing assignments, and workflow within their group. A successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent time management abilities, and a working knowledge of various accounting software. This position offers a competitive salary range of $225,000 - $350,000 per year, plus bonus and company-paid benefits. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a CPA or JD
  • Should currently hold the position of Partner/Principal, Senior Manager, or Director, and aspire to become a Principal
  • Must possess proven skill and experience in practice development
  • Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills required
  • Working knowledge of various accounting software is necessary

Responsibilities:

  • Take overall responsibility for all engagements, staffing assignments, and workflow within the group
  • Display high degree of technical and professional competence
  • Maintain open communication with all members of the firm
  • Manage staff assigned to the group and oversee performance reviews
  • Prepare client billings and ensure timely collection of receivables
  • Develop policies and procedures to increase productivity and fees
  • Be mobile and able to work at client's office as needed
  • Follow firm procedures and comply with policies
  • Enhance existing client relationships and actively seek new ones
  • Participate in marketing and business development activities
  • Promote the firm through various engagements and activities
  • Demonstrate commitment and loyalty to the firm
  • Attend training sessions and stay updated on industry practices
  • Develop positive relationships with clients and their personnel
  • Join community, civic, or business organizations
  • Participate in firm activities and contribute to its success
  • Identify areas of specialty and develop expertise
  • Build relationships with client personnel at all levels
  • Expand interpersonal, leadership, and selling skills
  • Develop and maintain referral sources
  • Represent the firm at special events and functions
  • Prepare professional biography/resume for proposals
  • Offer to speak or submit articles to local media
  • Network with other principals and promote each other's specialties
  • Mentor staff in building client relationships
  • Bring in new business leads frequently
  • Maintain and expand referral source network
  • Arrange and attend contact lunches/meetings
