Duties and Responsibilities for the Position of Machine Shops Specialist in Romeo, MI:

• Ensuring a safe and efficient work environment by promptly resolving issues in collaboration with relevant staff members.

• Interpreting drawings and specifications accurately for the purpose of manufacturing and repairing tooling.

• Efficiently operating equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, and basic tool room equipment.

• Machining and assembling tools and mechanical machines.

• Programming CNC tool paths with optimal speed and feeds.

• Utilizing MasterCam to interpret .dwg and .stp files for part programming.

• Maintaining a high level of organization and cleanliness according to the plant's 5S standards.

• Making repairs and improvements to tools and mechanical machines to meet specifications.

• Completing all necessary documents, including work order systems and business management systems.

• Contributing to continuous improvement efforts within the plant.

• Collaborating with the Facilities and Maintenance Manager, engineering personnel, and other team members to clarify and interpret drawings and specifications.

• Requesting equipment required for machining and assembling tools and machinery, while using qualified available equipment efficiently. Additional resources may be requested if needed.

• Taking necessary precautions by shutting down and locking out unsafe equipment until proper corrective actions are taken.

• Seeking training on hazardous waste handling and spill procedures, while handling wastes generated from tooling activities responsibly.

Environmental Responsibilities:

• Maintaining familiarity with proper safety and spill protocols, as well as hazardous waste handling procedures.

• Properly handling any wastes generated from tool making and machine building activities.

Expectations and Key Performance Indicators:

• Timely completion of tooling/projects.

• Verifying dimensional accuracy of finished parts.

• Demonstrating good verbal and electronic communication skills (email, verbal).

• Displaying a desire to pursue education and training related to the position.

Job Requirements:

Education/Experience/Training:

• High school diploma or GED.

• 5 years of experience in manufacturing.

• Journeyman status and/or 7-10 years of tool room experience.

• Experience in machine building.

• Understanding of:

- Metallurgy, cutting feeds, and speeds.

- Fabrication and welding.

- Blueprint reading.

- Mechanical assembly.

- CNC equipment setup and operation.

- MasterCam module experience.

- Familiarity with Fanuc posts and processes.

- Vertical CNC experience, with EDM wire as a plus.

- Manual mill, lathe, and grinding experience.

• Ability to efficiently work within CMMS systems.
