Job Title: Vice President Quality/Food Safety

Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Vice President of Quality/Food Safety to provide global leadership and expertise in ensuring our company's products meet the highest standards for food safety and quality. This role involves working closely with various departments to cultivate a best-in-class food safety culture and quality focus.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans, policies, and actions for food safety and quality assurance. Monitor progress using effective leading and lagging indicators and provide hands-on coaching and guidance on FSQA matters during plant visits.
  • Collaborate effectively with manufacturing leaders to align on FSQA strategy and execution, and drive necessary changes with a sense of urgency.
  • Lead the implementation of best practices in food safety and quality assurance across common food manufacturing platforms.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for food safety, quality, FSMA, GFSI, and company FSQA policies/procedures. Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, such as weights and measures, product claims, and declarations.
  • Provide direction, development, and oversight for the Corporate FSQA team, FSQA Regional Managers, manufacturing plant FSQA Managers, and sanitation departments. Foster a culture of continuous improvement by setting clear goals and objectives, empowering the FSQA team, and holding them accountable for results.
  • Maintain and manage key customer relationships in collaboration with sales personnel to instill confidence in our food safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure top talent is recruited and developed for all food safety and quality assurance leadership positions.
  • Effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to drive positive change in food safety and quality systems.
  • Oversee microbiological and analytical services and operations, ensuring compliance with standards, accreditations, and best practices.
  • Act as a representative for the Food Safety and Quality function in cross-functional teams to improve visibility and performance across the organization.

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology, Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • SQF Practitioner Certification.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in Food Safety, Quality Assurance, and Regulatory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge in GFSI, HACCP, PCQI, and other relevant food safety standards.
  • Expert knowledge in FDA regulations, with working knowledge of USDA and CFIA regulations being a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with Lean process/culture.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and a sense of urgency with the drive to make continuous improvements. Proficient in change management principles as they relate to food safety and quality.
  • Ability to operate on multiple levels, from strategic planning to hands-on execution, to achieve desired results.
  • Demonstrated ability to make informed decisions while balancing speed, quality, and risk.
  • Ability to think clearly and remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and technical knowledge are essential for success in this role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with SAP QM or other ERP systems is preferred.
  • Must possess excellent writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively with customers and individuals at all levels of the organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position oversees multiple direct reports, including Regional FSQA Managers, Global Director of Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance, and Food Safety & Quality Systems Manager.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Standard office environment, with occasional visits to manufacturing plants, which may have varying temperatures.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
