Lead IT Strategy at a Transformational Moment

Our client—a rapidly growing oil & gas company headquartered in Houston—recently went public and is now seeking an experienced Senior or Vice President of Information Technology (VP of IT) to lead and evolve its technology landscape. This is a rare opportunity to shape the full scope of IT operations from the ground up in a newly public organization poised for scale.

The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, bringing deep oil & gas expertise, particularly in upstream operations, along with a strong command of platforms like ODA (accounting), WellEz (drilling operations), and Peloton (production & field data). You’ll be instrumental in developing a forward-looking IT roadmap while ensuring the infrastructure and systems are secure, scalable, and aligned with the company’s aggressive growth goals.

What You’ll Do

• Define and execute a scalable IT strategy that supports both current operations and long-term business goals in a public company environment.

• Lead IT operations across infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise systems, and support services to ensure performance, reliability, and security.

• Manage and grow a small, agile internal IT team, while coordinating third-party vendors and consultants as needed.

• Oversee integration and optimization of sector-specific systems (ODA, WellEz, Peloton) to ensure seamless data flow and operational alignment.

• Collaborate closely with executive leadership and key business functions (Finance, Operations) to align IT initiatives with business priorities.

• Ensure SOX readiness and compliance with public company regulations, with a focus on cybersecurity and audit controls.

• Stay hands-on, leading initiatives directly and stepping in to troubleshoot or resolve issues when needed.

• Drive improvements in automation, data reporting, and business systems to enhance operational efficiency and decision-making.

Who You Are

• 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, with at least 5 years in the oil & gas industry (upstream focus preferred).

• Deep familiarity with industry platforms including ODA, WellEz, and Peloton.

• Track record of building and scaling IT infrastructure in high-growth environments.

• Experience supporting public or newly public companies, especially in the areas of compliance, security, and IT governance.

• Proven ability to translate business goals into actionable technology strategies.

• Strong communicator and leader, capable of bridging the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
