Welding / Maint Technician – ARC, MIG, and TIG welding – with certification

A well-established company that dominates the majority market share in its industry and promotes a positive work environment is offering an opportunity for a skilled Welding and Maintenance Technician on the day shift. The primary responsibility of the Welding Technician is to maintain welding equipment and the company's property. This role also involves welding repairs to equipment and facilities while prioritizing safety and efficiency. The job is located in the southwest suburban area of Atlanta, GA. The position offers an attractive hourly rate and follows a day shift schedule from Monday to Thursday, starting at 6:00 am and ending at 4:30 pm. Overtime is compensated at time and a half, and perfect attendance for the week earns an additional $1.00 per hour. The company also provides an excellent 401K plan with matching contributions.

Key Responsibilities: (All duties and responsibilities listed below are essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except for those labeled "May.") Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Level I

  1. Arc Welding: Skillfully perform arc welding in all positions, select appropriate rods for different base materials, and apply principles of arc welding according to job requirements.
  2. Mig Welding: Proficiently perform Mig welding in all positions, select suitable wire and gases for different base materials, and apply Mig welding principles throughout the job.
  3. Tig Welding: Competently perform Tig welding in all positions, select suitable rods and gases for different base materials, and apply Tig welding principles in accordance with job specifications.
  4. Oxy Fuel/Plasma/Saw cutting: Appropriately utilize cutting techniques and tools while minimizing the impact on the workpiece.
  5. Fabrication: Complete basic fabrication tasks with guidance and the provided blueprints.
  6. Safe Work Practices: Prioritize and practice safety measures when working with equipment.

Level II (Includes all Level I responsibilities)

  1. Arc Welding: Independently select rods to optimize the strength and performance of welds.
  2. Mig Welding: Independently select wire and gases/pressures to optimize the strength and performance of welds.
  3. Tig Welding: Independently select rod and gases/pressures to optimize the strength and performance of welds.
  4. Oxy Fuel / Plasma cutting: Set up the torch optimally, with some guidance, to minimize the impact on the workpiece.
  5. Fabrication: Perform intermediate level fabrication tasks with minimal instruction and the provided blueprints.
  6. Safe Work Practices: Evaluate the work environment to maximize safety for the facilities and other individuals in the work area.

Level III (Includes all Level I & II responsibilities)

  1. Arc Welding: Hold a certified Arc welding qualification in all positions.
  2. Mig Welding: Hold a certified Mig welding qualification in all positions.
  3. Tig Welding: Hold a certified Tig welding qualification in all positions.
  4. Oxy Fuel / Plasma cutting: Set up the torch optimally, without instruction, to minimize the impact on the workpiece.
  5. Fabrication: Perform advanced fabrication tasks without instruction and provide own prints (may include basic machining).
  6. Safe Work Practices: Evaluate the work environment to maximize safety for the facilities and other individuals in the work area.

Requirements:

All Levels:

  1. Level I - High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to two years of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  1. Level II - High school diploma or general education degree (GED), two to four years of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  1. Level III - Technical training certificates or associate’s degree, six to eight years of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  1. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Proficiency in writing routine reports and correspondence.

  1. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  1. Ability to analyze problems, gather data, and establish facts.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to use their hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls and communicate effectively. The job requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. The individual must also have the ability to reach with their hands/arms and lift weights up to 80 lbs.
