Location: South of Pittsburgh, PA
Salary: $70,000 – $85,000 + Quarterly Bonuses (10–15%) + Total Bonus Potential 20%+
Travel: Minimal (≈10%)
Must-Have Qualifications
- 3+ years of mechanical design experience
- 3+ years of estimating experience (RFQs, cost analysis, take-offs)
- 2–5 years of CADD experience (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and tolerances
- Experience creating detailed drawings and cost estimates
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD preferred)
- Ability to analyze labor, material, and equipment costs
Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support a conveyor manufacturing team focused on delivering custom, cost-effective material handling solutions. This role combines design engineering and estimating, requiring both technical expertise and commercial awareness to develop accurate project designs and cost proposals.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and respond to Requests for Quote (RFQs) with accurate estimates and designs
- Develop and update engineering drawings using AutoCAD or similar tools
- Perform material take-offs and analyze labor, materials, equipment, and timelines
- Collaborate with Purchasing to obtain pricing and build detailed cost estimates
- Compile and present estimates with clear technical and financial details
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate project documentation
- Work cross-functionally with sales, engineering, and management teams
- Support ongoing design improvements and cost optimization efforts
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Ross ERP and/or Microsoft Dynamics CRM
- Background in conveyor systems or material handling equipment
- Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD tools
- Strong understanding of machining processes and production methods
