Acute Care & Emergency Department Clinical Supervisor

This role supports a healthcare system's acute care and emergency services division in Great Falls, MT, partnering with the Department Director to lead nursing staff across Medical-Surgical and Emergency Department settings. The Clinical Supervisor balances administrative leadership, including staff development and scheduling, with hands-on bedside support during periods of high patient volume or acuity.

Compensation
$95,000 to $115,000 per year.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will partner with the Department Director to lead, organize, and direct daily operations across the Acute Care (Med/Surg) and Emergency Departments. You will drive staff development, departmental competencies, onboarding, educational events, and annual evaluations to help nursing and care teams grow professionally. You will manage departmental scheduling, timecard edits, interviewing, quality data collection, incident report tracking, sick call logs, and daily team huddles. You will step in to provide direct floor care across Med/Surg, Pediatric, Geriatric, and ED patient populations when patient volume or acuity exceeds scheduled staffing levels, and you will provide clear operational direction to Charge Nurses, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Ward Clerks, and Technicians while collaborating closely with House Supervisors, physicians, mid-level providers, and executive leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Montana, or immediate eligibility to obtain
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certifications, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Minimum of 7 years of hands-on RN clinical experience in a Medical-Surgical, Acute Care, or Emergency Department setting
- Demonstrated leadership capability with a strong foundation in basic and advanced nursing principles, acute clinical decision-making, and standard emergency/acute care medical equipment
- Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, and customer service skills
- Ability to balance administrative leadership responsibilities with active, high-acuity bedside nursing support
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior formal supervisory or charge nurse leadership experience across multiple acute care units
