Estimator - Civil Construction

A heavy civil site development company is hiring an Estimator to prepare cost estimates for infrastructure, site development, utilities, mass excavation, reclamation, landfill, and mining projects. The company serves commercial, industrial, and municipal markets. On-the-job training is available, and the role has strong potential for growth and advancement. This is an onsite position based in Columbia, South Carolina, with a small amount of regional travel.

Schedule Full-time, onsite. A small amount of travel within South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia may be required.

Compensation $55,000 - $80,000 Per Year

What You'll Do You will estimate self-performed work, pricing labor, equipment, and material costs, and produce accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings through to detailed, final contract estimates. You will build working knowledge of construction assemblies across all project phases, assess site exposures and construction risks, and analyze and reflect those costs appropriately in each estimate. You will identify constructability issues through the estimating process and develop value-engineering alternatives. The role involves estimating grading and utilities across site development, industrial, commercial, mining reclamation, overburden removal, and general site work. You will use or learn takeoff and modeling software including Agtek, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, and CAD, as well as bidding software such as B2W (Bid2Win) and HCSS HeavyBid. You will work as part of a team and communicate effectively with clients, engineers, and other stakeholders. On-the-job training is available for candidates who do not yet have all of these tools.

Required Qualifications

• Two-year or four-year degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
• Strong working knowledge of Excel
• Ability to read conceptual, schematic, and contract drawings
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with clients and engineers

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in Civil Engineering or IT
• Experience with CAD programs and Adobe
• Experience with estimating software such as Agtek, B2W (Bid2Win), HCSS HeavyBid, or similar
• Experience estimating grading and utilities
• Takeoff experience on site development, industrial, commercial, utilities, mining reclamation, or overburden removal projects
• Familiarity with Trimble Business Center or Carlson
