Materials Manager, Automotive Manufacturing

This position leads all materials management functions at an international automotive supplier's facility in Charleston, West Virginia, reporting across material planning, production scheduling, receiving, shipping, materials handling, and inventory control. The Materials Manager is accountable for on-time customer fulfillment through accurate inventory control, effective supplier coordination, and disciplined execution of logistics processes. The facility operates within a Tier-1 automotive supply environment with SAP as the core system of record.

Compensation
$120,000 - $140,000 Per Year
What You'll Do
You will manage and direct the full scope of materials operations, including material planning, production scheduling, receiving, shipping, materials handling, and inventory control. This includes developing, implementing, and maintaining the policies and procedures that govern effective execution across all logistics functions. You will ensure inventory accuracy through cycle count programs, control systems, and corrective action processes, and will supervise production scheduling activities by monitoring material inventories, tracking production progress, and reviewing factors that affect schedules.
Vendor coordination is a core responsibility. You will ensure that supplier releases are issued on time and with accuracy, and will work to improve in-plant material handling and storage systems. You will develop and maintain ISO procedures for the materials department and ensure consistent, correct use of SAP across all materials functions.
You will lead the materials team directly, providing day-to-day direction and longer-term development for personnel engaged in planning, scheduling, and logistics execution. All work activities must comply with applicable OSHA, safety, and PPE requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
- Experience in material control and production scheduling within the automotive industry
- Direct leadership experience managing materials control teams
- Proficiency in SAP, including materials management and production planning modules
- Working knowledge of ISO or TS-16949 quality system documentation requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- APICS CPIM certification
- Background in automotive Tier-1 manufacturing environments
- Experience with cold stamping operations or coil steel logistics
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience developing or auditing ISO procedures within a materials or supply chain function
