A precision machine tool manufacturer is seeking an Applications Engineer with deep expertise in Swiss-style sliding headstock CNC equipment. This role sits at the intersection of applications engineering, presales support, and hands-on customer training, working directly with manufacturing customers across the Philadelphia, PA region and beyond. You will serve as the primary technical resource for customer-facing demonstrations, turnkey project execution, and machine applications development.
Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, with regular travel to customer facilities required.
Compensation: $80,000 - $140,000 Per Year
What You'll Do
You will manage turnkey application projects from initial scoping through completion, ensuring deliverables are met on time and within budget. This includes conducting presale customer visits, evaluating application opportunities, assessing machine suitability, developing part processing strategies, and writing formal turnkey proposals with accurate cost estimates.
You will develop and deliver customer training programs covering the safe setup and operation of Swiss-style sliding headstock lathes, CNC turning centers, machining centers, grinders, and multi-tasking machines. Training is conducted both at the facility and on-site at customer locations, and you will be expected to produce supporting engineering documentation including written reports and interpretation of plans and specifications.
You will maintain current knowledge of the company's product lines and the broader CNC machine tool industry to serve as a credible technical resource for customers throughout the sales and post-sale process.
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in applications engineering or manufacturing using Swiss-style sliding headstock CNC machine tools
- Proficiency with Fanuc-based CNC controls
- Experience with CAD/CAM software and conversational CNC programming
- Ability to write clear engineering reports and interpret mechanical plans and specifications
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to customer sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 5-axis CNC machining
- Background in machine tool presales or applications support roles
- Familiarity with multi-tasking or mill-turn machine configurations
- Experience developing or delivering formal CNC operator or setup training
