Underwriter
Underwriter - Life Insurance
New Haven, CT (Remote) $70,500 to $120,000 per year
A mission-driven financial services organization that provides life insurance, long-term care insurance, disability income insurance, investments, and annuity products is hiring a Life Insurance Underwriter. This is a fully remote role supporting a team currently based on the East Coast, though candidates living in other parts of the country will be considered. You will underwrite individual life insurance contracts in amounts up to $500,000, occasionally assisting on higher-amount applications subject to senior review.
Schedule Full-time, fully remote. Flexible workweek schedules are available.
Compensation $70,500 to $120,000 per year. The stated range applies to work performed in Connecticut and may be adjusted for other locations. It is not typical to be hired at or near the top of the range; actual compensation depends on skills, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs.
What You'll Do You will appraise, classify, and take action to approve or decline applications for new insurance, changes of plan, conversions, exchanges, reinstatements, and additions of benefits. This includes determining extra premiums for medical impairments and special hazards such as aviation, occupation, foreign residence and travel, and unusual avocations, classifying each applicant to limit adverse selection while maintaining equitable mortality.
You will communicate with field force and Home Office personnel regarding insurance applications and adjustments, and answer routine inquiries from other departments and the field force concerning underwriting policies, practices, and procedures related to individual applications.
