Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Health & Safety Coordinator to support workplace safety across a busy industrial operations environment in Concord, ON.
This is a full-time, in-office/on-site role. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with employees, supervisors, drivers, warehouse staff, and operational teams to ensure health and safety procedures are being followed consistently.
This is not a desk-only position. The ideal candidate should be comfortable spending a significant amount of time on the floor, conducting inspections, identifying risks, supporting employee training, reviewing procedures, and helping maintain a strong safety culture across warehouse, yard, fleet, and operational areas.
The Health & Safety Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining and improving health and safety programs across the business, including warehouse operations, yard operations, delivery fleet activities, regulated material handling, contractor safety, employee training, inspections, incident investigations, emergency preparedness, and compliance documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct health and safety orientations for new employees.
- Ensure required safety training is completed before employees begin work.
- Track and maintain training records for WHMIS, TDG, propane handling, forklift certification, fall protection, lockout/tagout, first aid, and other applicable safety programs.
- Monitor certification expiry dates and coordinate retraining before expiry.
- Support compliance with applicable workplace safety legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
- Assist with maintaining compliance related to Ontario Occupational Health and Safety requirements, TDG regulations, TSSA requirements, CSA standards, and applicable environmental regulations.
- Develop, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures for operational areas.
- Support SOPs related to regulated material handling, cylinder handling, propane operations, warehouse procedures, loading and unloading, emergency response, and fleet safety.
- Conduct routine workplace inspections of warehouse areas, yard operations, vehicles, loading areas, storage areas, and other operational spaces.
- Identify hazards and follow up to ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Investigate near misses, workplace incidents, vehicle accidents, property damage, injuries, and safety-related concerns.
- Determine root causes of incidents and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed documentation related to incidents, inspections, training, corrective actions, safety meetings, and compliance requirements.
- Support driver and fleet safety by reviewing vehicle inspections, accident reporting, documentation, and safe work practices.
- Monitor driver-related safety documentation, including abstracts, daily vehicle inspections, accident reporting, and TDG documentation where applicable.
- Conduct ride-alongs, vehicle safety reviews, and fleet-related safety audits when required.
- Verify proper handling, storage, and safety procedures for regulated materials, cylinders, equipment, and workplace hazards.
- Ensure damaged or non-compliant equipment or materials are identified, removed from service, and reported properly.
- Coordinate Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, minutes, inspections, and action items.
- Participate in workplace inspections with committee members and follow up on outstanding safety concerns.
- Assist with emergency preparedness planning, including fire response, spill response, gas leak response, evacuation procedures, and emergency drills.
- Ensure contractors complete required site orientations and provide proper documentation before beginning work.
- Collect and maintain contractor documents, including insurance certificates, WSIB clearance certificates, and site safety acknowledgements.
- Support ongoing improvements to workplace health and safety programs.
The successful candidate will help support safety performance goals such as training compliance, inspection completion, corrective action follow-up, near-miss reporting, incident reduction, emergency readiness, audit preparation, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications:
Job Requirements:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within an industrial, warehouse, transportation, manufacturing, distribution, propane, gas, or regulated operations environment.
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Human Resources, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- A college diploma, university degree, or recognized health and safety certificate will be considered.
- Equivalent hands-on experience in an industrial, warehouse, transportation, propane, gas, manufacturing, or regulated operations environment may also be considered.
- Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety practices, inspections, incident investigations, corrective actions, and safety documentation.
- Familiarity with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Experience with WHMIS, TDG, forklift safety, lockout/tagout, first aid, and workplace training records.
- Knowledge of propane, industrial gases, high-pressure systems, cylinder handling, fleet safety, or regulated materials would be considered a strong asset.
- Experience supporting or coordinating Joint Health and Safety Committee activities.
- Ability to conduct workplace inspections and follow up on corrective actions.
- Strong documentation, organization, and record-keeping skills.
- Comfortable working in both office and hands-on operational environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work with employees, supervisors, drivers, contractors, and management.
- Practical, observant, and proactive approach to identifying and resolving safety risks.
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Concord, ON.
Preferred Qualifications and Assets:
JHSC certification would be considered an asset. CRSP, CHSC, NCSO, or working toward a recognized health and safety designation would be considered an asset. Training or certification related to WHMIS, TDG, propane handling, forklift safety, lockout/tagout, first aid, fall protection, or other workplace safety programs would be considered an asset. Experience in propane distribution, industrial gas operations, chemical handling, bulk fuel distribution, transportation, logistics, warehouse operations, fleet safety, welding supply, or similar industrial environments would be considered a strong asset.
