This Plant Engineer role leads the maintenance and engineering department for a food manufacturing plant in Wilson, NC. The Plant Engineer is responsible for building and equipment performance across the facility, reducing mechanical downtime, and ensuring reliable product flow through the production lines. This person also leads engineering activities to keep the facility’s manufacturing processes current, including the development and execution of technology and capital improvement projects.

What You’ll Do
The Plant Engineer owns capital projects from concept through completion, managing and scheduling all project elements to minimize disruption to plant operations while delivering on time, on budget, and in line with safety, food safety, and environmental standards. This person develops and implements maintenance systems, including Preventive and Predictive Maintenance and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), to keep the plant operating efficiently and to optimize scheduling in a way that maximizes task completion while minimizing downtime. The role also includes managing the maintenance team through delegation, policy enforcement, and work assignment, and providing both short term fixes and long term solutions to operational challenges through troubleshooting, problem analysis, and equipment failure resolution. The Plant Engineer drives continuous improvement by developing and tracking key performance indicators related to equipment reliability, supplier performance, and overall equipment effectiveness across the plant.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited four year college or university, plus 8+ years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)

2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management, team development, or project leadership

Advanced technical skills in mechanical and electrical systems, including PLCs, instrumentation, and mechanical engineering

Working knowledge of maintenance systems, work order processes, and preventive/predictive maintenance, including TPM

Ability to use exposure monitoring equipment and interpret and communicate results

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word

Strong written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills

Strong interpersonal, technical, and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a food manufacturing or food and beverage production environment

Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or similar maintenance certification

Experience leading capital project execution in a large manufacturing environment
