Engineering Manager - Heat Exchangers

Lynchburg, VA | $140,000 to $160,000 per year plus 10% bonus and stock incentives | Full-time

A manufacturer of custom engineered-to-order heat exchangers and HVAC components in Lynchburg, Virginia is hiring an Engineering Manager. The role serves as the company's Chief Engineer and leads day-to-day engineering operations, reporting to the Director of Engineering. It covers ETO order engineering, product maintenance and enhancement, and application of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, including nuclear Section III work. Relocation assistance is available.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, on-site in Lynchburg, VA.

Compensation

$140,000 to $160,000 base salary, plus a 10% short-term incentive and long-term incentive in company stock.

What You'll Do

As Chief Engineer, you will lead the engineering team responsible for processing engineered-to-order sales orders on time. You will also maintain and enhance existing products based on market needs identified by Sales. You will manage department workflow against on-time delivery and KPI targets, keep project and sales order tracking current, and coordinate engineering support for Quality and the shop floor.

You will apply ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III (Classes 1, 2, and 3) and Section VIII to custom product design, and review and sign off on engineering documents. You will manage welding and brazing procedures, approvals, and certifications. You will also maintain third-party product listings such as AHRI, disposition RMAs, and develop a bill of materials strategy across the product line.

You will lead and develop the engineering staff through regular one-on-ones, clear priorities, and ongoing feedback, and mentor engineers on product design, maintenance, and processes. You will make sure the department follows the ISO 9001 and nuclear quality programs, drive continuous improvement, and work with the Director of Engineering on strategy, policy changes, and critical customer decisions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field
• 10+ years of manufacturing experience in the design and development of heat exchangers or related HVAC systems and components
• 3+ years of engineering management experience
• Expert knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III (Classes 1, 2, and 3) and Section VIII as applied to custom product design
• Strong background in mechanical component and assembly design and strength of materials
• Experience with MRP systems
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks
• Strong written and verbal technical communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Experience with Made2Manage MRP
• SolidWorks EPDM experience
• Experience with nuclear quality programs, such as NQA-1 or 10 CFR 50 Appendix B
• Experience with ASME Section IX welding and brazing procedure qualification
• Experience managing AHRI or other third-party product certifications
• Experience in an engineered-to-order manufacturing environment
