Automation Solutions Consultant
Ruston, LA

Schedule: Full time, based in Ruston, LA with periodic travel to client sites

Compensation: $140,000 to $180,000 per year

This is an opportunity to join a company providing automation and controls engineering services to industrial clients across multiple sectors. The role serves as a senior technical authority on automation projects, working directly with clients from initial project discovery through commissioning.

What You'll Do

This role covers the full lifecycle of automation and controls projects, including project management, cost estimation, control system design, programming, documentation, and startup and commissioning support. The consultant acts as the primary technical point of contact between clients and the company, developing scope of work packages, proposals, and project estimates independently. Day to day work includes programming, configuring, migrating, and troubleshooting PLC, HMI, SCADA, and DCS platforms such as Rockwell ControlLogix, Honeywell Experion, Siemens, Emerson DeltaV, and ABB 800xA systems. The consultant also provides ongoing technical and maintenance support for existing control systems at client facilities, supports the sales team with technical proposals and documentation, and travels to client sites for system assessments, technical sales support, and project reviews. This role requires a high degree of autonomy, with the ability to identify system issues, recommend improvements, and manage deliverables with minimal oversight.

Required Qualifications

• 7 or more years of hands on experience in industrial automation and controls engineering
• Ability to read and interpret electrical control panel drawings, electrical schematics, P&IDs, and other engineering drawings
• Experience designing and implementing industrial automation systems
• Project management and leadership experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms (PLC-5, ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix)
• Experience with Siemens or GE Fanuc PLC platforms
• Experience with HMI platforms such as FactoryTalk View, Siemens WinCC, Wonderware InTouch/ArchestrA, or Ignition
• Experience with DCS platforms such as ABB 800xA, Rockwell PlantPAx, Emerson DeltaV, or Honeywell Experion
• Experience mentoring or training junior engineers
