Must-Haves

  • 5+ years of Controls Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLCs
  • Strong experience with HMI systems and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of VFDs, motors, filters, protection devices, and machine control systems
  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC) and machine safety standards
  • Ability to support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and equipment upgrades
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related field preferred
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future

Position Overview

We are seeking a talented Controls Engineer to join a world-class manufacturing organization near Oneida, New York. This is an exciting opportunity to work with advanced manufacturing equipment while supporting automation projects, machine controls, system upgrades, and plant operations in a growing and highly successful environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong PLC programming experience, solid electrical controls knowledge, and the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering and maintenance teams to improve equipment performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop machine control systems using AutoCAD
  • Select and size electrical components including VFDs, motors, filters, PLCs, HMIs, and protection devices
  • Program, edit, troubleshoot, and modify Allen Bradley PLC systems
  • Support installation, startup, and commissioning of manufacturing equipment and machinery
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and controls support for maintenance and production teams
  • Assist with equipment upgrades, process improvements, and automation initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and machine safety requirements
  • Travel approximately 30% to local facilities to support installations and operational needs
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to improve system performance and efficiency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent hands-on controls engineering experience will also be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Strong experience with PLC programming, HMI systems, and industrial automation
  • AutoCAD experience required
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, industrial controls, and manufacturing equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills
