- Join Our Excellent Physical Therapy Team Specializing in Pediatrics.
SUMMARY:
- You will be responsible for planning and implementing personalized treatment programs for pediatric patients, collaborating with an interdisciplinary treatment team. Reporting directly to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehab Services, you will ensure high-quality physical therapy care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assess patient requisitions for Physical Therapy.
a. Conduct interviews to evaluate the physical condition and needs of patients.
2. Devise customized exercise and treatment plans for assigned patients.
a. Determine appropriate equipment usage, application, and body position, adjusting as needed for treatments such as exercise, gait training, soft tissue mobility, whirlpool, hot packs, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs, electrical stimulation, and traction.
b. Educate patients on program segments, including the proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliances and devices.
c. Adjust and modify the patient's program based on progress evaluations and consult with physicians for further alternatives if necessary.
3. Create accurate written documentation, including evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries.
4. Communicate observations, facts, and comments to nursing and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated healthcare planning.
5. Provide guidance and direction to staff members assisting in patient care.
6. Adhere to and maintain department policies, procedures, objectives, and quality initiative programs, emphasizing safety and infection control.
a. Adhere to hospital-wide safety responsibilities:
1. Preserve a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
2. Maintain a working knowledge of all hospital safety policies and procedures, including fire safety and disaster protocols.
3. Follow safety practices on equipment and use safety devices correctly.
4. Wear appropriate safety clothing, glasses, gloves, shoes, etc., and follow "Universal Precautions" as needed.
5. Report any unsafe act or condition to your supervisor.
6. Attend safety programs when scheduled.
b. Familiarize yourself with and abide by the department's "Policy and Procedure" manual.
c. Participate in quality initiative indicators as directed by the Clinical Coordinator.
7. Assist in maintaining and caring for department equipment and supplies.
8. Attend mandatory meetings and participate in committees as required.
9. Transport patients to and from the PT Department when necessary.
10. Assume the duties and responsibilities of Senior Therapists in their absence.
11. Enhance professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, staying updated with current literature, attending in-service meetings, and workshops, among other opportunities.
12. Attend all annual mandatory educational programs required by the position.
13. Provide age-appropriate care to neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
14. Understand and demonstrate the importance of meeting customer/patient needs by interacting with them in a friendly and caring manner, being attentive to their psychological and physical needs, and maintaining communication to ensure a secure and pleasant experience.
- EDUCATION:
- Must possess a valid license to practice physical therapy in NYS at the time of hire.
- EXPERIENCE:
- Prior experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
- CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 90 days of hire date.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Prolonged physical effort or strain, including occasional repetitive tasks. May involve lifting, pushing, pulling. Must have the ability to independently lift at least thirty (30) pounds and lift one-hundred and fifty (150) pounds with the assistance of another person.
- EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
- Category II. Job tasks do not involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but unplanned Category I tasks may arise.
- INFECTION CONTROL:
- Adhere to universal precautions at all times while providing patient care.
