Electrical Field Service Technician
Huntsville, AL | $35.00 to $85.00 per hour (level dependent) | Full-Time
A nationally recognized electrical power services company is hiring Field Service Technicians to support acceptance and maintenance testing of medium- and high-voltage equipment across utility, industrial, and data center environments. This is a field-based role for technically skilled professionals with a background in apparatus testing, NETA standards, and NFPA 70E safety practices. Placement level and compensation are determined by certification level and years of field experience, with openings available at the Level II, III, and IV tiers.
Schedule
Full-time, field-based with travel up to 50% depending on client and project scope. Travel logistics including lodging, flights, and rental car are covered by the company where applicable.
Compensation
- Level II (approximately 2 to 4 years of experience or NETA II / NICET EPT II equivalent): $35.00 to $60.00 per hour
- Level III (approximately 5 to 8 years of experience or NETA III / NICET EPT III equivalent): $65.00 to $75.00 per hour
- Level IV (8 or more years of experience or NETA IV / NICET EPT IV equivalent): $75.00 to $85.00 per hour or above
Per diem is provided at the current GSA rate (approximately $127 per day). A company vehicle, company card, and full expense reimbursement for travel are also included. Overtime is available depending on project scope.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will perform acceptance and maintenance testing on medium- and high-voltage electrical equipment in accordance with NETA standards. Your day-to-day work will involve testing and troubleshooting switchgear (low- and medium-voltage), power transformers, circuit breakers, and protective relays and protection systems. You will execute lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and comply fully with NFPA 70E requirements, and you will conduct arc-flash and shock hazard evaluations as required by the scope of work.
Documentation is a core part of this position. After completing field testing, you will analyze test results, identify deficiencies, and generate detailed field service reports. You will provide timely updates to both management and clients on findings and project status throughout the engagement.
Your level of field leadership will align with your certification and experience tier. At Level II, you will execute testing assignments under supervision while building your technical foundation. At Level III, you will lead small field crews and take independent ownership of defined portions of projects. At Level IV, you will serve as a subject matter expert and lead technician, managing full project ownership, maintaining client-facing relationships, and mentoring junior technicians and trainees on your crew.
Required Qualifications
- 2 or more years of electrical testing experience (specific range is level dependent, up to 8 or more years for Level IV)
- Working knowledge of power distribution systems
- Familiarity with NETA standards and NFPA 70E
- Ability to travel up to 50%
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
- NETA certification at Level II, III, or IV (candidates with equivalent hands-on apparatus testing experience will be considered without certification)
- NICET EPT certification at Level II, III, or IV (accepted as an equivalent to NETA certification)
- Proficiency with PowerDB field reporting software
- Experience with OEM test equipment including Megger, Doble, Omicron, or similar platforms
- OSHA 30 certification
- CPR and First Aid certification
Compensation and Benefits
