Heavy Civil Project Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking a driven and experienced individual to fill the role of Civil Construction Project Manager. This position will be based in Charlotte, NC and will involve overseeing construction projects with a value ranging from $5M to $50M. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

As the Project Manager, you will have overall accountability for the successful execution of projects. This will involve handling tasks such as estimating, budgeting, scheduling, ensuring contract compliance, maintaining safety standards, managing the quality of work, overseeing project closeout, and ensuring owner satisfaction. You will also provide the necessary labor and equipment resources, monitor construction progress, set strategic project goals, and closely assess performance to ensure that the owner's objectives are achieved. In addition, you will play an active role in engaging field supervision and project engineering teams, providing them with training and guidance to foster improvement and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee an entire heavy highway, road, and/or bridge construction project or manage a significant segment of a construction project
  • Plan and execute complex or technical work requiring sound judgment and decision-making authority
  • Manage field construction activity, engineering, and other field project support activities
  • Ensure contract execution aligns with schedule and budget requirements
  • Establish and maintain relationships as the main point of contact for the owner
  • Administer the contract and protect the company's rights and remedies regarding any changes
  • Assemble a skilled workforce and provide direct management to field supervision
  • Utilize negotiation and contract management skills to represent the company to the owner and external agencies

Requirements

  • 5-15+ years of recent experience in heavy highway, road, and bridge construction management
  • Current/recent experience in medium to large heavy highway, road, and bridge construction projects ($5M+) is essential
  • Familiarity with the local construction environment is desired
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a similar discipline is preferred
  • OSHA 30 certification is preferred
  • A proven track record of effectively organizing workforces to achieve project goals
  • A well-rounded knowledge base in various construction disciplines
  • Strong leadership abilities
