Manufacturing Engineer

Manufacturing Engineer (proto - typing and testing)

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing methods, processes, and cost-efficiency initiatives. This role plays a critical part in supporting our customers and employee-owners by driving operational excellence through collaboration, innovation, and a strong commitment to lean manufacturing principles.

The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with department supervisors and cross-functional teams to improve safety, quality, and productivity while optimizing process efficiency. You'll lead initiatives to enhance workflows, equipment utilization, and work instructions, supporting a culture of continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support manufacturing operations using structured problem-solving methods such as root cause analysis, fishbone diagrams, 6S, value stream mapping, and job safety analysis.

  • Lead and challenge existing processes by promoting a shared vision, inspiring teams, and modeling effective leadership practices.

  • Evaluate current and potential process capabilities to drive quality improvements and assess new incoming work.

  • Identify, document, and implement continuous improvement opportunities to reduce cycle time, scrap, and waste.

  • Develop and present financial justifications for capital investments and process changes.

  • Conduct time studies, method analyses, and work measurement activities to support process optimization.

  • Use computer simulations to analyze production processes and recommend improvements.

  • Serve as a technical resource to train and support team members, ensuring compliance with specifications, timelines, and safety standards.

  • Achieve key performance metrics related to safety, quality, cost, productivity, and on-time delivery.

  • Create, update, and maintain routings, work instructions, and blueprints to meet quality standards and customer specifications.

  • Provide support across all three plants and shifts to ensure consistent project and production alignment.


Qualifications:

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing and/or the metals industry

  • Proven experience in project management and applying industrial engineering practices

  • Proficient in SolidWorks or similar CAD/CAM software, with strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Strong communication skills to convey technical information across departments and to external partners

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and strong mathematical skills

  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project

Preferred Skills:

  • 5+ years in an engineering or technical role within the manufacturing or metals industry

  • Experience improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)

  • Familiarity with quality tools and current safety standards

  • Skilled in Value Stream Mapping, Time Standards, Line Balancing, and Plant Layout Optimization

  • Training or certification in Lean Manufacturing, Visual Factory, Kanban, Kaizen, or Six Sigma

  • Materials flow management expertise

  • Experience using ERP or MRP systems
