Outside Sales Representative

Job Description: Field Sales Representative - Boston, MA

As a Field Sales Representative, you will play a crucial role in achieving our sales goals by utilizing effective sales techniques, providing exceptional customer service, nurturing existing accounts, prospecting new clients through cold calling, and representing our company in the Boston, MA area.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver in-person, outside sales support throughout the assigned territory, requiring the use of a personal or company vehicle. Reasonable accommodations will be provided to individuals with disabilities to ensure the completion of essential tasks.


  • Implement competitive sales strategies to maximize sales potential in the Boston, MA region.
  • Acquire extensive knowledge about pump equipment, flow instrumentation, and industrial products.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing accounts, while consistently expanding the account base and increasing sales volume.
  • Regularly contact customers via phone and in-person meetings, with limited overnight travel required.
  • Efficiently create customized proposals to meet individual customer needs.
  • Manage profit margins in compliance with company guidelines.
  • Handle specific product lines and build relationships with vendors, starting with Grundfos and Xylem.
  • Contribute to the growth of our product portfolio by recruiting new vendors.
  • Address and resolve customer inquiries promptly.
  • Utilize company-generated leads to expand the customer base and diligently follow up on all prospects.
  • Maintain organized and updated files for all accounts in the assigned territory.
  • Submit daily sales reports and provide monthly documentation of proposals.
  • Complete assigned duties and tasks as required.

Required Competencies

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and reading communication abilities, with the capacity to engage effectively at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet software.
  • Self-motivation, strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently.
  • Adherence to customer and project deadlines.
  • Understanding of the industrial landscape in Massachusetts.
  • Aptitude for working collaboratively in a team environment.

Work Environment

This role involves a combination of office, home office, and industrial setting work. You will frequently use equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, and drive for long periods of time and distance.


You will travel regularly to customer locations for sales responsibilities and problem-solving. Some overnight travel may be necessary, but the majority of work will involve daily trips within a successful territory.
