Project Engineer

This company is seeking a Construction Engineer who will be responsible for efficiently planning and executing capital projects to continually enhance process capability, production quality, and efficiency. In this role, you will oversee engineering reviews, project management, cost control, and sustainability planning for assigned strategic and capital projects.
Experience required for this position includes:
- Familiarity with AutoCAD.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in a technical field, with a background in project engineering or project management.
- Proficiency with various software applications, including PLC and programming languages like Python, C, C++, or VB. Additionally, familiarity with Windows/DOS is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Experience in cash flow analysis using Microsoft Office.
Education:
A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, control engineering, or a similar discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Required Qualifications
Strong strategic and analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and outcomes of projects.
Solid knowledge in mechanical design, power transmission, hydraulics, pneumatics, and control systems is necessary.
Must be a proactive self-starter with strong self-motivation and the ability to work independently with minimal direction or guidance.
Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication, organizational, and prioritization skills with great attention to detail.
Must have the ability to work effectively across various functions and organizational levels.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and attention to detail skills.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple projects and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
Proficient in supporting or leading equipment FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) events.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Capability to manage projects across multiple disciplines and make critical decisions to ensure the success of the project.
The ability to operate equipment for training and trial purposes.
Excellent MS Office skills with proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
Ability to work long hours and weekends when necessary.
Preferred but not required:
- Project Management Professional Certification.
- Green Belt or Black Belt Certifications.
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional.
- Experience in plastic extrusion or blown film manufacturing.
- Industrial maintenance experience.

Competence in managing project resources, which can be measured by the number of projects or their annual financial value.
Skill in developing business cases to justify investments and collaborating with other departments to input data.
Familiarity with regulations such as NFPA, OSHA, EPA, best practices, and performance standards.
Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, including gearboxes, belts, chains, pulleys, fans, welding, machining, pneumatics, hydraulics, fabricating, tools, PLCs, ladder diagrams, drives, DC and AC voltage, relays, SCADA systems, networking, three-phase and single-phase power distribution, lighting, power supplies, controls, and general shop knowledge.
Ability to read equipment layout and design, electrical and mechanical prints.
Understanding of safety associated with drift, mechanical loads, LOTO, steam, pressure, tolerances, electricity, security systems, and atmosphere.

Experience in Food Packaging or Food Manufacturing is a plus.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsible for the design, installation, and commissioning of process equipment related to machinery modification, upgrades, and new process technology.

Monthly reporting of capital spending compared to individual project budgets and overall corporate capital budget.

Manage complex engineering projects related to new production, capital investments, and cost-saving opportunities. This includes overseeing project schedules, scopes, budgets, and ensuring quality.

Participate in long-term strategic planning for new production capability and capacity, as well as the annual capital budget planning process.

Responsible for performing economic analysis and justifying capital requests from the production, marketing/sales, and technical departments.

Track capital expenses for various engineering projects, including assisting with budgeting, managing project costs, completing purchase orders, and tracking final costs.

Oversee external vendors/contractors to ensure safety standards are met or exceeded throughout the project lifecycle.

Manage post-project performance analysis on all capital projects with a budget of $100,000 or more. Reports may be required for capital projects with a budget of less than $100,000.

Assist with overall plant operations and maintenance by optimizing process conditions, resolving process problems and quality deficiencies, and reducing capacity restrictions.

Assist with problem-solving related to packaging machine design deficiencies as required.

Promote teamwork across the facility while interacting with employees to support the company's quality, safety, and PIE program.

Stay updated on new technological developments associated with plastic film equipment and processes, including extrusion, web handling, printing, and other converting technologies.

Perform duties and responsibilities in compliance with ISO 9001 standards.

Conduct ad hoc analysis, special projects, and other assigned duties by the Director of Operations.
