Senior Controls Engineer
An expanding systems integration company is currently seeking a Lead Controls Engineer to join their team in the dynamic city of Melrose Park, IL. In this position, you will be exposed to a diverse range of projects encompassing hardware design, network design, database development, robotics programming, software development, and field commissioning. Working with a wide variety of customers, you will have the chance to witness the practical application of industrial equipment in diverse industries including automotive, chemical, consumer products, food & beverage, and material handling.
As a solution provider, the Lead Controls Engineer will be responsible for project management and execution, which includes electrical control design, programming, commissioning, panel build supervision, field commissioning, and mentoring junior engineers.
The company specializes in the following products and engineering services:
- Design and Deployment of Turnkey Robotic Cells for Packing, Palletizing, Machine Tending, and more
- Comprehensive Control System Design, including PLC programming, HMI design, SCADA, and MES
- Hardware design for Control Panels, encompassing PLC, HMI, and drive systems
- Control Panel Assembly, including assembly and wiring based on the company's designs and those of others
- Field Service, providing assistance to customers during equipment downtimes
- Remote Support, offering assistance to customers through telephone and VPN
- Commissioning, ensuring the full operation of the company's designs
Responsibilities:
- Create control system designs
- Manage project scope based on written specifications and verbal descriptions
- Ensure compliance with NEC code and UL508A
- Program PLCs and operator interfaces (brands include Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Automation Direct, and Mitsubishi)
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues during system commissioning
- Regularly communicate project status with customers
- Oversee multiple projects from concept to commissioning
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships
- Develop software applications, with a preference for Visual Basic, C#, Python, and SQL Server
- Create written scopes and budgets for quotations
Requirements:
- Prior experience of 5+ years in industrial automation systems
- Desire and ability to lead junior engineers
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field of study
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, primarily to local customer sites
The annual base salary range provided for this position is intended to comply with certain state laws. Please note that it is a broad range and should be used as a guideline only. The final salary offer will take into account factors such as work experience, education/training, key skills, salaries of employees in similar roles, and other relevant factors.
