This role is with a growing sensing technology manufacturer that designs equipment for U.S. Department of Defense programs, based in the Syracuse, New York area. The company builds digital hardware, FPGA-based systems, and high-speed electronics for next-generation sensing products. The Senior Digital Hardware Engineer will lead hardware design work within a multidisciplinary engineering team and will be involved across the full product development lifecycle, from schematic and PCB design through integration, testing, and production support.

Schedule
Full-time, on-site in Syracuse, New York.

Compensation
$100,000 to $136,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.

What You'll Do
This engineer will lead the design and development of digital hardware for next-generation products, including multi-layer PCB design, schematic development, and board layout. The role includes architecting and developing FPGA solutions using VHDL and/or Verilog on modern Xilinx platforms, along with the design of high-speed digital interfaces, data acquisition systems, digital signal processing, and communication architectures.

Day to day work also includes hardware integration, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and production support, as well as writing Python and Bash scripts to automate engineering workflows. This person will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the entire product development cycle.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of digital hardware design experience
  • Experience designing analog and digital circuits, including FPGAs, microcontrollers, memory, and high-speed interfaces
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and similar lab equipment
  • Experience with VHDL and/or Verilog
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • U.S. citizenship required, with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Altium Designer
  • Experience with Xilinx Vivado
  • Experience with RF systems or software defined radio (SDR)
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and Linux
  • Experience leading design reviews or providing technical leadership on hardware projects
