Senior Heavy Civil Estimator

Cary, NC | $115,000 to $150,000 per year

A family-owned heavy civil contractor in the Raleigh/Cary area is hiring a senior estimator to own bids on roadway, site, and utility projects ranging from $1M to $35M across Virginia and North Carolina. You will price highways, earthwork, bridges, and underground utility packages and build complete bid packages independently. This is a direct-hire role with room to mentor junior estimators as the team grows.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work during busy bid cycles. Some local travel is required, so reliable personal transportation is needed.

Compensation

$115,000 to $150,000 per year, based on skills and experience.

What You'll Do

You will read and interpret bid documents and plans to build accurate, competitive estimates, performing quantity takeoffs directly from civil construction plans and documents. You will define project scope, identify the disciplines and subcontractor roles needed, and evaluate DBE participation to ensure project goals are met.

Working early in the bid process, you will spot constructability issues and value-engineering opportunities, coordinate pre-bid activities and inquiries with the owner, and develop and review estimates and schedules on projects from $1M to $35M. You will build and deliver complete project bid packages and provide direction and mentorship to junior estimators on the team.

Required Qualifications

• 4 to 7 years of experience as a civil construction estimator
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field
• Working knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) specifications
• Proficiency with HeavyBid or comparable estimating software

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with heavy highway, earthwork, bridge, and utility work
• Prior experience with NCDOT and/or VDOT projects
• Familiarity with HeavyJob, AGTEK, Bluebeam, or Primavera P6
