Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job description:

General:

  • Collaborate and perform other duties required for effectiveness of department, or as required by Manager.
  • Collaborate with other Teams/functions by completing agreed tasks/requests.
  • Identify improvement opportunities within job scope.

Product Improvement & Redesign:

  • Improve existing product designs for reliability, manufacturability, and cost efficiency
  • Translate field issues and warranty trends into design improvements
  • Drive DFM/DFA initiatives with overseas factories

NCR Investigation & Root Cause Analysis:

  • Lead structured investigation of recurring defects
  • Perform hands-on failure analysis
  • Implement and validate corrective/preventive actions

Manufacturing & Tooling Support:

  • Provide tooling and process improvement input
  • Support sample review, first article inspection, and production release
  • Improve production stability through engineering changes

Technical Documentation & Drawing Control:

  • Produce and maintain SolidWorks drawings
  • Develop supply guides, QC checkpoints, and technical documentation
  • Maintain revision control

Standards & Compliance:

  • Interpret and apply relevant Australian Standards
  • Support compliance documentation

Overseas Factory & QC Liaison:

  • Work directly with overseas engineering/QC teams
  • Participate in factory visits as required

Backup/Team Support:

  • Address quality issues and risk management for product warranty (manufacture warranty).
  • Assist the client and external teams problem-solving product issues, and provide positive outcomes, that meet the clients expectations.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on the stocks received and authorise for release in accordance with SOPs.
  • Design product kits and manufacturing guide.
  • Ensure QC items have been tagged with relevant documentation.
  • Functional compliance with QMS standards and quality assurance.
  • Providing help and answers to the Customers After Sales issues through identification of the problem and provision of a solution to rectify.
  • Reduce product defects and warranty claims by monitoring and managing supplier quality.
  • Responsible for manufacturing and assembling product as per relevant BOM or manufacturing guide.

Qualifications:

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical engineering experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing and product engineering, preferably in mass production environments.
  • Proven experience in designing and improving products for manufacturing, with strong understanding of real-world production constraints.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D modelling and production drawing creation.
  • Strong expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
  • In-depth understanding of tolerances, fits, material behavior, and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Hands-on experience with tooling such as moulds, machining processes, casting, and assembly jigs.
  • Proven track record in investigating recurring product defects, conducting failure analysis, and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including brass casting, CNC machining, injection moulding, assembly processes, and surface finishing/coating.
  • Experience in plumbing products, tapware, valves, sanitaryware, bathroom/kitchen fittings, or other mechanical building products.
  • Good understanding of hydraulic and mechanical systems, including flow, pressure, and sealing applications.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate manufacturing risks such as tolerance stack-up, assembly difficulties, seal failures, and quality inconsistencies.
  • Familiarity with Australian Standards and product compliance requirements.
  • Experience working directly with overseas factories, engineering teams, and quality control personnel is an advantage.
  • Trade background in toolmaking, machining, or fabrication will be highly regarded.
  • Hands-on, practical, and solutions-oriented approach with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
