Senior Project Engineer (Heavy Civil - Highway / Roadway)
Medium to Large Heavy Civil Project Experience ($30M+)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Sr. Project Engineer to play a critical role in supporting the successful execution of large-scale heavy civil construction projects. This role collaborates closely with the Project Manager, Superintendent, subcontractors, and vendors to manage key administrative and technical aspects, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive reviews of contracts and project specifications to support project goals.

Provide advanced-level support to the Project Manager and Superintendent across all project phases.

Assist with the development, maintenance, and updates of detailed project schedules.

Track quantities, monitor project costs, and contribute to accurate cost forecasting.

Source competitive pricing from subcontractors and vendors, including managing change orders.

Coordinate timely delivery of equipment and materials to maintain workflow.

Collaborate with subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams to resolve project challenges.

Support monthly billing cycles, cash flow projections, and the change order process.

Oversee document control, including management of submittals, contract documents, and record drawings.

Verify accuracy of daily field reports (e.g., HeavyJob) to ensure reporting integrity.

Maintain technical documentation, including submittal logs, NPDES permits, SWPPP, and updated schedules.

Ensure strict compliance with inspection, testing, utility coordination, and notification protocols.

Communicate changes to plans and specifications to subcontractors and vendors promptly.

Assist with project closeout activities, ensuring smooth completion and turnover.

Execute additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Project Manager.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with a focus on Construction Engineering and Management (CEM).

5–8 years of experience in civil construction, with exposure to both field and office responsibilities.

Proven experience working on medium to large-scale heavy civil projects ($30M+).

Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Primavera P6.
