A North American manufacturing company is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to lead automation strategy, capital project execution, and control system standardization across its network of manufacturing facilities. This is a senior individual contributor and team leadership role responsible for DeltaV configuration, process control architecture, and enterprise-wide integration of automation and data systems. The position is based in Collierville, TN and involves periodic travel to North American plant sites.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, based in Collierville, TN with travel to North American manufacturing facilities as project and site support needs require.
Compensation: $130,000 - $150,000 Per Year
What You'll Do
You will execute the corporate automation strategy across North American manufacturing facilities, maintaining technical standards for control system design, instrumentation specifications, programming, system architecture, and OT cybersecurity protocols. You will evaluate emerging technologies including advanced process control, machine learning, and AI tools to assess implementation value and feasibility, and facilitate regular technical forums to promote knowledge sharing and standardization among site and corporate engineering personnel. You will conduct systematic benchmarking of existing automation systems against industry standards to identify improvement opportunities.
You will provide technical oversight for the design, configuration, programming, simulation, testing, and commissioning of process control solutions for major capital projects and standardization rollouts. You will champion the design and implementation of S88-compliant batch control systems and provide tools and training to plant engineers. You will oversee instrumentation, control valve, and network hardware specification and selection, ensuring adherence to corporate standards and hazardous area requirements where applicable. You will direct the development and maintenance of control system architecture with a focus on scalability, reliability, and secure enterprise integration.
You will lead initiatives for control loop optimization, alarm management rationalization, and advanced regulatory control strategy implementation. You will develop and manage control system lifecycle plans including obsolescence management and upgrade strategies. You will develop and manage the corporate automation capital plan, working with plant teams to identify needs, justify projects, and secure funding. You will provide final technical approval for automation-related Capital Expenditure Requests, with typical project values ranging from $25,000 to $2,000,000 or more, and oversee major project execution for adherence to scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety standards.
You will manage relationships with key automation vendors, system integrators, and engineering contractors, negotiating service agreements and support structures, and approving high-value invoices and significant project change orders. You will ensure seamless integration and utilization of the Aveva PI System data historian across all sites, and leverage business intelligence tools to develop reports, dashboards, and analytics supporting operational efficiency and quality control.
You will ensure all automation designs and modifications adhere to Process Safety Management (PSM), OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations. You will champion safety-in-design principles for control systems, participate in HAZOPs and LOPA reviews, and actively contribute to the development and enforcement of OT cybersecurity policies covering network segmentation, access control, patch management, incident response planning, and vendor security assessments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field
- 10 or more years of experience in automation engineering, process control, or a related manufacturing discipline
- Hands-on DeltaV configuration experience, including design, programming, and commissioning
- Experience managing automation capital projects from justification through execution
- Working knowledge of control system architecture, instrumentation specification, and network hardware selection
- Familiarity with OT cybersecurity principles including network segmentation, access control, and patch management
- Strong project management, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with S88-compliant batch control system design and implementation
- Process Safety Management (PSM) experience, including HAZOP and LOPA participation
- Experience with Aveva PI System (OSIsoft PI) historian integration and configuration
- Familiarity with advanced process control strategies and emerging automation technologies including machine learning and AI applications in manufacturing
- Experience managing automation vendors, system integrators, and engineering contractors
- Prior experience in a multi-site or corporate engineering role with responsibility across more than one manufacturing facility
- Experience developing and enforcing corporate control system standards and cybersecurity protocols
