Senior Energy Engineer

Overview

We are a well-established electrical power and control systems engineering firm looking to hire a Senior Energy Engineer in Alpharetta, GA. This position is crucial in supporting our expanding energy department.

Key Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing comprehensive electrical construction and specification packages that meet the requirements of a Professional Engineer and can be submitted for authority plan check. This includes:
    • Conducting load studies
    • Creating single line diagrams
    • Preparing plot plan and area/building detail diagrams
    • Designing lighting systems
    • Establishing grounding systems
    • Developing conduit and cable schedules
    • Creating construction specifications
    • Providing equipment and installation details
    • Experience in the following drawings is preferred:
      • Area classification drawings
      • Motor/breaker schematics and wiring diagrams
      • Lightning Protection
    • Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC), IEEE 3000 Series (formerly known as color books), and API 500 (preferred)
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel
    • Experience with power system modeling tools such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower is preferred
    • Experience with electrical power relay settings generation and implementation, preferably with GE Multilin and SEL
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of electrical power load studies
  • Lead the development of comprehensive electrical power construction packages that can be stamped by a Professional Engineer and submitted for authority plan check
  • Lead the development of comprehensive electrical power specifications for company projects
  • Create electrical power bills of material and collaborate with vendors for equipment pricing
  • Conduct field verification walkdowns, including as-building existing Electrical and E&I infrastructure
  • Perform factory acceptance testing on electrical power equipment
  • Oversee start-up and commissioning, including troubleshooting electrical power and E&I systems as necessary
  • Provide after-hours support for internal and external clients when needed
  • Work with Project Manager(s) to ensure the quality of deliverables, maintain budget, and communicate progress, issues, and change orders
  • Assist Project Manager(s) in preparing cost estimates and proposals for new projects, offering technical expertise and guidance on labor, expenses, and procurement
  • Travel approximately 25% of the time, including air travel
