Sr Process Engineer
Our client, a prominent company in the Food and Beverage industry, is currently seeking a highly skilled individual to fill the position of Senior Manufacturing Engineer. This role is based in Indianapolis, IN and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the company's continued growth. As the Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support to the manufacturing operation. Your primary focus will be on developing and implementing efficient process systems that optimize equipment performance and drive operational excellence. Collaboration with quality and engineering teams will be essential in integrating new products and processes successfully. Additionally, you will actively identify, analyze, and solve manufacturing issues, proposing cost-effective solutions for continuous improvement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Support
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair services, ensuring compliance with manufacturer's procedures to maintain operational production equipment.
- Assist in developing and improving standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all processes, driving product quality, yield performance, and reduced variation.
- Support the training and certification of manufacturing personnel for the operation of new or modified processing lines.
- Assist in expanding current processes to meet customer demand and improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with quality personnel to address performance issues, ensuring products meet specified criteria.
- Utilize knowledge of mechanical equipment in a manufacturing environment (such as pumps, motors, and valves) for effective troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Provide supervision to technicians, technologists, analysts, and administrative staff when necessary.
- Ensure familiarity with aseptic manufacturing and utilities (such as CIP, SIP, and maintenance of sterility) for maintaining product quality standards.
- Provide technical expertise and support for the installation, maintenance, and improvement of process equipment.
Process Improvement
- Lead technicians in waste reduction, process capability improvement, increased overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), enhanced quality, and effective capacity management.
- Define process specifications, equipment parameters, and processing methods to optimize efficiency and performance.
- Conduct raw material trials to support quality and productivity improvements, utilizing research and planning skills.
- Identify opportunities and implement changes to enhance products, reduce costs, and improve fabrication processes, tooling, assembly methods, quality control, and product design.
- Review product designs for manufacturability and completeness, making recommendations and modifications as necessary.
- Plan workflow, equipment placement, and space requirements to optimize manufacturing efficiency and ergonomic conditions.
- Evaluate quality assurance processes and propose improvements to enhance overall quality standards.
- Analyze production data and provide management with reports, statistics, and insights for future manufacturing requirements.
- Improve, modify, and upgrade processes to reduce costs, enhance quality, and meet customer satisfaction by minimizing process variation.
Operational Alignment
- Maintain effective communication with stakeholders involved with or impacted by assigned responsibilities.
- Conduct food safety and defense inspections, promptly addressing any identified deficiencies.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
- Ensure compliance with company and regulatory agency requirements for products, personnel, equipment, environment, and property, and provide technical support for plant environmental programs.
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safety rules and actively contributing to the safety culture.
- Assist in creating or updating P&IDs, layout drawings, and schematics.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the company.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, preferably in Industrial, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
- 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing.
- Previous project management experience is required.
- Experience in people management is preferred.
- Prior experience in a food grade environment (such as FDA, GMP's, or HACCP) with high-speed packaging equipment is required.
