Bennett & Pless is looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to join the team in our Nashville, TN office. This role leads the design and analysis of structural systems across a wide range of project types, including manufacturing, distribution, data centers, commercial developments, historic structures, adaptive reuse, and renovation work. The engineer will act as a technical lead on projects while mentoring junior and mid-level staff, with growth opportunities available on both a technical specialist track and a leadership track.

Full-time.

Compensation

$100,000 to $140,000 per year, based on experience.

What You’ll Do

This role involves direct engagement with clients, architects, and contractors, including meetings, review of structural documentation, and oversight of junior staff. The engineer will lead structural design calculations, construction document preparation, shop drawing and submittal reviews, site observations, and responses to RFIs, while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to keep deliverables on track and aligned with client expectations and company quality standards.

The role also includes performing QA/QC reviews of work prepared by others, and mentoring the broader engineering team by supporting technical development and career growth. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines, communicates clearly in both written and verbal form, and takes full ownership of assigned work while collaborating effectively across teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering field

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or Structural Engineer (SE) license

  • Minimum of 8 years of structural engineering experience with an emphasis on building design

  • Project management experience or demonstrated capability

  • Experience designing with steel, concrete, and masonry for low to mid rise structures

  • Proficiency with industry standard structural software such as Tekla Structural Designer, ETABS, SAFE, SAP, RAM, RISA, EnerCalc, or Adapt

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • Prior people management experience

  • Working knowledge of Revit

  • Client management experience
