Must-Have Qualifications

Position Summary

The Structural Engineer is responsible for the design, layout, and project management of building structures, machinery foundations, and plant civil infrastructure. This role supports multiple manufacturing facilities and ensures structural projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards.

The position will be based in Spring Grove, IL and will support additional nearby facilities. The role requires close collaboration with contractors, engineering teams, and plant leadership to deliver cost-effective structural solutions that support plant operations and equipment installations.


Key Responsibilities

Structural Design & Engineering

  • Design and develop building structures, machinery foundations, and plant infrastructure to support manufacturing operations.

  • Create detailed layouts and engineering documentation using SolidWorks and 2D CAD.

  • Ensure all designs meet or exceed building codes, structural standards, and safety requirements.

Plant & Facility Layouts

  • Develop functional plant and building layouts, including equipment placement and utilities integration.

  • Design reliable foundations for large or specialized industrial machinery.

  • Support mechanical design initiatives as needed using SolidWorks.

Project Management

  • Manage structural and facility-related projects from concept through installation.

  • Evaluate project feasibility, develop project budgets and ROI analysis, and secure project approvals.

  • Develop and maintain project schedules using MS Project to track timelines and milestones.

Contractor & Vendor Coordination

  • Prepare detailed bid packages and technical specifications for building, foundation, and civil projects.

  • Obtain vendor quotes, negotiate pricing and delivery terms, and review contracts prior to project authorization.

  • Manage and coordinate general contractors and subcontractors responsible for building, foundation, and infrastructure installations.

Construction Oversight

  • Oversee installation and construction activities to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with design specifications.

  • Direct project crews and subcontractors during installation and assembly of structural projects.

  • Monitor contractor performance for projects involving utilities, HVAC, plumbing, railroad, and plant infrastructure.

Structural Maintenance & Improvements

  • Lead the modification, redesign, and repair of existing structures as needed.

  • Provide engineering expertise for facility upgrades and plant expansion projects.

Corporate Engineering Support

  • Provide architectural and structural engineering support for multiple manufacturing facilities, including joint venture locations.

  • Perform engineering analysis and validation to ensure designs meet safety, quality, and operational requirements.


Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of CMAA crane manufacturing codes

  • Experience with rigging plans and engineered lift plans

  • Strong understanding of plant utilities, civil engineering, and environmental codes

  • Proficiency in structural blueprint reading and technical documentation

  • Strong experience using Microsoft Office and MS Project

  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with engineering teams, contractors, and plant leadership
