Technical CNC Machine Cell Lead & Multi-Axis Machinist
Technical CNC Machine Cell Lead & Multi-Axis Machinist
Up to $34.00/hr + Profit Sharing • Duluth, MN Area • Exclusive 1st Shift
EDUCATION CORE: 2-Year Technical Diploma or Associate’s Degree in CNC Machining or Machine Tool Technology is a strict requirement.
This is an opportunity to join a premier, global market leader in the heavy equipment attachment industry serving the scrap recycling, construction, and demolition sectors. Experiencing massive, continuous facility expansion, this financially sound manufacturer completely rejects corporate politics, fostering a stable, family-oriented environment where technical excellence is actively celebrated and internal promotion is the norm.
This lead-track cell position is designed for a highly technical, degreed machinist who wants to step away from mundane, high-volume repetition where operators are treated like basic “button pushers.” Rather than managing standard production cycles, you will own the setups on large-scale mills, handle complex high-strength hydraulic components, and collaborate directly with design engineering and welding fabrication teams to streamline workflow efficiency. The organization protects your work-life balance with a dedicated daytime schedule and directly shares in its success through a robust profit-sharing program. It is the ideal setup for a sharp mentor seeking long-term professional respect, high-variety technical challenges, and a secure career home.
What You Will Be Doing
- Advanced Cell Setup: Performing complete, independent setups and advanced operations on a variety of large-scale CNC milling centers and complex multi-axis machine tools.
- Path Optimization: Editing G&M codes and optimizing program paths at the controller to safely manufacture precision components from high-strength steels and specialized alloys.
- Print Interpretation: Interpreting intricate, multi-page blueprints and technical engineering drawings to determine exact dimensions, strict geometric tolerances (GD&T), and the ideal sequence of operations.
- Precision Metrology: Utilizing specialized precision measuring instruments (bore gauges, micrometers, calipers) to conduct first-article inspections and verify 100% conformance to tight tolerances.
- Cross-Functional Engineering: Collaborating directly with design engineering and welding fabrication teams to troubleshoot program issues, resolve complex setup roadblocks, and streamline workflow efficiency.
- Shop Floor Mentorship: Providing technical mentorship, processing guidance, and hands-on setup coaching to junior machine operators to ensure repeatable part quality and safe operation.
- Asset Care & Safety: Upholding a rigorous safety-first culture, performing basic preventative machine maintenance, and sustaining a clean workspace in compliance with 5S standards.
What We Are Looking For
- Heavy Machining Background: Significant professional experience managing setups on large milling centers and executing close-tolerance work on massive, complex workpieces.
- Advanced Kinematics Aptitude: Practical understanding of multi-axis configurations; familiarity with 5-axis machining platforms or live-tool turning centers is a major plus, though extensive internal training is available.
- Analytical Drive: Expert-level problem-solving capability to navigate unproven programs, calculate complex cutting parameters, and evaluate tool wear on the fly.
- Employment Reliability: A rock-solid, stable work history demonstrating long-term career commitment and technical growth with previous organizations; frequent job-hopping is a disqualifier.
