Consulting Engineer, Building Technology

Must-Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Architectural Engineering
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Registered Architect (R.A.) license required
• 5+ years of experience in architectural, engineering, construction management, or building envelope consulting
• Strong experience with building envelope systems including:
  • Curtain walls
  • Roofing systems
  • Waterproofing systems
  • Windows and skylights
  • Exterior wall claddings
• Experience with field investigations, failure analysis, and remedial repair design
• Strong project management experience handling multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to perform site inspections, climb ladders/scaffolds, and work at elevated heights
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to travel to project sites as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree preferred
• Experience with curtain wall design or historic preservation
• Industrial rope access or rock climbing experience a plus
• Public speaking or technical presentation experience preferred

Position Overview

We are seeking a Consulting Engineer, Building Technology to manage and support a wide range of building envelope consulting projects in the Atlanta, GA area. This role will focus on both new construction consulting and the investigation, evaluation, and repair of existing building systems.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in building envelope systems, project management, forensic investigations, and remedial design. This individual will work closely with architects, contractors, building owners, and multidisciplinary teams while leading projects from investigation through construction administration.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage small to mid-sized projects involving new construction design and existing building evaluations
• Oversee multiple concurrent assignments while maintaining project schedules, budgets, and client relationships
• Conduct field investigations and document existing building conditions
• Investigate building envelope failures and develop remediation strategies
• Perform water leakage testing and analysis for roofing, waterproofing, curtain wall, window, and exterior wall systems
• Design remedial repairs for walls, roofs, curtain wall systems, plaza waterproofing, and below-grade waterproofing assemblies
• Assist architects and contractors with technical design consultation and construction support
• Conduct component sampling, analysis, and technical evaluations of building envelope systems
• Support projects through construction administration and implementation phases
• Perform peer reviews of plans, specifications, and technical documents
• Provide litigation support related to construction defects and building envelope issues
• Mentor and train junior engineering and technical staff
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams and maintain strong client communication

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Architectural Engineering required
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Registered Architect (R.A.) license required
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in building envelope consulting, engineering, architecture, or construction management
• Strong technical understanding of waterproofing, roofing, curtain walls, windows, and exterior building systems
• Experience with forensic investigations, failure analysis, and repair design
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• Proficiency with technical documentation and computer graphics tools
• Excellent communication and client management skills
• Ability to travel and perform field/site inspections as required
