A Shelby Township aerospace tooling manufacturer seeks an experienced estimator to support its sales and estimating function. The company produces tools and fixtures for aerospace customers and operates with a structured estimating process built around Visual Manufacturing software. This role reports to the Sales and Estimating Department Manager and has no direct reports.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, on-site in Shelby Township, Michigan.
Compensation: $80,000 - $100,000 Per Year
What You'll Do
Your primary responsibility is evaluating the labor, material, and outside process content for each request for quotation the company receives. You will build manufacturing plans within the Visual Manufacturing estimating module, incorporating labor costs, material costs, and subcontractor costs to produce accurate, competitive quotes. You will read and interpret Statements of Work in full, incorporating all special customer requirements into each quote package.
You will maintain working knowledge of the tool manufacturing market, including competitor positioning, prevailing labor rates, sub-tier supplier capabilities, and current work backlog and capacity. Regular communication with the internal sales staff on estimate status, customer feedback, and special requirements is a routine part of the job. You will interact directly with customers to clarify questions or address special requirements as they arise.
Upon award, you will hand off a comprehensive quote lineup to the manufacturing team that captures all relevant details known at the time of quotation. You will also participate in post-completion project reviews with manufacturing to identify lessons learned and evaluate improvement opportunities. As part of the company's quality system, you will contribute to quality policy objectives and flag significant quality risks identified during the estimating process.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a tooling production environment
- Expert-level proficiency in CATIA and/or ENOVIA
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering prints and Statements of Work
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Project
- CAD experience and aptitude
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Thorough understanding of tool and fixture manufacturing processes
- U.S. citizenship or valid Permanent Resident status (required due to the nature of work performed)
Preferred Qualifications
- Aerospace industry experience
- Familiarity with Visual Manufacturing estimating software
- Some college coursework or technical training in manufacturing, engineering technology, or a related field
- Experience participating in post-project lessons-learned reviews or process improvement initiatives
