Safety Specialist, Industrial Manufacturing

An industrial manufacturing facility in Rockaway, New Jersey is adding a Safety Specialist to its five-person EHS department. This is a newly created position reporting to the plant EHS Manager, supporting an 800-employee production facility. The role is focused on proactive safety prevention, working directly with facility supervisors on incident investigation, root cause analysis, and behavioral safety training rooted in human performance principles.

Schedule: Full-time, on-site in Rockaway, New Jersey.

Compensation: 85,000 - $95,000 Per Year

What You'll Do

Your primary focus in this role is prevention rather than reaction. You will partner with facility supervisors across an 800-employee plant to identify safety risks before they result in incidents, support behavioral safety training programs grounded in human performance methodology, and help build a culture of proactive safety awareness throughout the operation.

Investigation support is a core responsibility. When incidents or near-misses occur, you will lead or assist with root cause analysis, document findings, and develop actionable corrective recommendations. Working alongside supervisors rather than above them, you will help frontline leaders understand how to identify contributing factors and implement sustainable fixes.

Training is a significant component of the day-to-day work. You will develop and deliver safety training content for supervisors and employees, with particular emphasis on human performance concepts and behavioral approaches to hazard recognition and risk reduction. You will track training completion and ensure records are maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements.

As part of the EHS department, you will contribute to the broader compliance and program management work of the team, which includes supporting audits, maintaining safety documentation, participating in EHS inspections, and assisting with environmental and safety reporting as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related technical discipline from an accredited institution
• 2 or more years of plant-level safety experience in industrial or heavy manufacturing environments
• Familiarity with OSHA standards applicable to general industry manufacturing
• Experience conducting or supporting incident investigations, including root cause analysis methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with human performance or behavioral-based safety programs
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification, or active pursuit of either
• Experience supporting OSHA compliance audits or VPP participation
• Familiarity with EHS management systems (ISO 45001 or equivalent)
• Experience training supervisors and hourly employees in a manufacturing environment
