Hours: Full Time, Days
Position Summary:
The Surgical Services Assistant Director plays a crucial role in the daily operations and clinical leadership of the Surgical Services department(s) at [Hospital Name/Organization]. Reporting directly to the Director of Surgical Services, this position supports the efficient functioning of the department, ensuring exceptional patient care and optimal resource utilization.
Working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurse managers, and interdisciplinary team members, the Assistant Director helps maintain a high-performance, patient-centered environment. Key responsibilities include staff supervision, procedural oversight, supply and equipment management, scheduling coordination, and fostering continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:

Support the Director of Surgical Services with daily operational management of assigned areas.

Provide leadership and guidance to nurse managers, charge nurses, and clinical staff, promoting teamwork and efficiency.

Assist in developing and implementing departmental policies, procedures, and quality initiatives.

Help manage staff scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage and optimal workflow.

Coordinate with materials management for supply ordering, inventory control, and equipment maintenance.

Assist in budget oversight, identifying cost-saving opportunities and ensuring fiscal responsibility.

Serve as a clinical resource and role model, ensuring adherence to best practices and patient safety protocols.

Foster effective communication among surgical teams, anesthesia providers, and supporting departments.

Participate in performance improvement initiatives, data collection, and process enhancements.

Assist with staff onboarding, training, and professional development activities.

Act as the Director’s delegate when needed, providing leadership continuity.

Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards to ensure departmental compliance.
Qualifications:
Required:
-
Degree in Nursing (Associate Degree in Nursing with a Bachelor's in Nursing or related field accepted; BSN preferred).

Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
-
At least 2 years of progressive leadership experience in hospital surgical services (Charge Nurse, Supervisor, or Assistant Nurse Manager).

Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in surgical services (Operating Room, Pre-Op/PACU).

Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a dynamic environment.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Master’s degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Business, Public Health, or related field.

CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) or other relevant specialty certification.

Experience in budget management and resource allocation.

Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: $110,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year
