Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Equipment Design Engineering Team. In this role, you will plan, organize, and direct engineering efforts to align with company objectives—focusing on the design of new equipment, enhancement of existing systems, innovation in manufacturing processes, and project management. You’ll also provide critical backup and troubleshooting support to our Maintenance teams.

This position requires a strong technical background, leadership capabilities, and a hands-on approach to mentoring and managing engineering professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop engineers—guiding both their technical expertise and soft skills.

  • Lead equipment design projects by defining form, fit, and function for manufacturing systems (presses, mobile equipment, heat treatment equipment, machine tools, etc.).

  • Oversee and contribute to the mechanical layout and design of components and systems using SolidWorks.

  • Direct research and development efforts for new equipment and manufacturing processes, considering function, budget, ROI, quality, and safety.

  • Ensure compliance with engineering codes and perform analysis and validation to guarantee design integrity and workplace safety.

  • Lead component selection for machinery and provide oversight on mechanical and hydraulic system design.

  • Calculate operational loads and size mechanical systems using hand calculations, spreadsheets, and analytical tools including FEA.

  • Select materials for designed components, specifying processes and mechanical properties.

  • Review and refine component and assembly drawings with a focus on tolerances, fits, dimensional analysis, and GD&T.

  • Manage project documentation, including BOMs, hardware lists, cost analysis, ROI calculations, and procurement.

  • Oversee project budgets, vendor contracts, and timelines—ensuring alignment with company objectives and delivering consistent updates to stakeholders.

  • Provide training and guidance to production staff on equipment use and maintenance practices.

  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Production teams to improve the reliability and efficiency of current equipment.

  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and build business cases for investments when applicable.

  • Lead the startup and implementation of new or updated equipment, coordinating across internal teams, contractors, and vendors.

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support and technical training to Maintenance personnel.

Education, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required)

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • PE license and/or a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience

  • Proficient in SolidWorks (part modeling, large assemblies, detailed drawings)

  • Skilled in Finite Element Analysis (linear structural FEA and CFD)

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems

  • High mechanical aptitude and creativity in engineering problem-solving

  • Expertise in blueprint reading, tolerance analysis, material selection, and manufacturing processes

  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire technical teams

  • Strong negotiation and project management abilities

This is a high-impact leadership position for an engineering professional who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment and is ready to drive performance across design and production operations.
