A well-established heavy civil contractor is hiring an Earthwork Superintendent to lead field operations on highway and civil infrastructure projects in the Sarasota and Southwest Florida market. This is a direct-hire, field-based leadership position responsible for crew supervision, production, scheduling, and daily field execution on active heavy highway work.
Schedule Full-time, field-based on active heavy highway and civil construction sites in the Sarasota, FL area. Day shift hours typical of heavy civil work; specific start times vary by project and season.

What You'll Do You will oversee and coordinate field crews on heavy highway and civil construction projects, taking ownership of safety, production, scheduling, manpower coordination, and daily execution. Working from project plans and schedules, you will build clear daily work plans for crews and turn plans, manpower, equipment, and field conditions into measurable daily production.
A large part of the role is staying ahead of problems. You will monitor production rates, identify schedule conflicts early, and communicate them before they become delays. You will review grades, slopes, drainage requirements, and project specifications against field conditions, and help resolve field issues, crew coordination challenges, and production bottlenecks as they arise.
Day to day, you will coordinate with other crews, subcontractors, and project leadership, review workforce needs and task assignments, and assess crew capability against the work ahead. You will also approve material needs, support field requisitions, and maintain required field reporting and employee time reporting.
Required Qualifications
- 5 or more years of heavy highway or heavy civil construction experience
- Strong working knowledge of earthwork, grading, slope, and drainage
- Ability to read construction drawings and interpret project specifications
- Demonstrated experience leading field crews and managing daily production
- Strong scheduling, planning, and field coordination skills
- Strong communication and problem-solving ability
- Ability to coordinate effectively with project managers, crews, subcontractors, and field leadership
- Valid Florida or Georgia driver's license with a clean record
Preferred Qualifications
- FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation) project experience
- Drainage and stormwater construction experience
- Mass earthwork production background
- OSHA 30 certification
- Bilingual ability in Spanish
