A federal correctional facility in Leavenworth, Kansas is seeking a licensed psychologist to provide direct mental health services to the incarcerated population. This is a fully onsite clinical role embedded within a multidisciplinary healthcare team that includes psychiatrists, mental health providers, and other facility health professionals. The position involves both routine clinical work and acute crisis response in a structured, security-conscious environment.
Schedule
This is a full-time, onsite position. Remote or hybrid arrangements are not available. Specific shift details and hours should be confirmed with the facility prior to offer.
Compensation: $165,000 - $175,000 Per Year
What You'll Do
The psychologist in this role conducts psychological screenings and assessments using clinical interviews and review of available records, then develops and implements individualized treatment plans that are adjusted on an ongoing basis as patient needs evolve. You will perform regular rounds across housing units to evaluate inmate adjustment, identify emerging mental health concerns, and document clinical findings for the multidisciplinary team.
Crisis intervention is a core function of this role. You will respond to inmates in acute distress, apply evidence-based counseling and intervention techniques, and coordinate with clinical and security staff to de-escalate situations and ensure continuity of care. You will also consult with staff across departments, providing guidance on behavioral observations and changes in mental status that may affect housing, programming, or safety decisions.
Collaboration with psychiatrists, mental health providers, and facility leadership is ongoing. You will contribute to integrated care planning, participate in clinical meetings, and support the broader mission of delivering consistent, humane psychological services within a correctional setting.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) in Psychology from an APA-accredited program
- Active, unrestricted license as a Psychologist in Kansas, or eligibility to obtain licensure in Kansas prior to start
- Experience conducting psychological assessments and delivering clinical interventions in a structured or institutional setting
- Familiarity with psychological assessment instruments and evidence-based counseling approaches
- Ability to obtain and maintain facility security clearance as required by the correctional institution
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a correctional, detention, or forensic mental health setting
- Familiarity with correctional mental health standards (NCCHC, APA guidelines for psychology in corrections)
- Experience with crisis intervention protocols in high-acuity or secure environments
- Postdoctoral training or supervised experience in forensic or institutional psychology
- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills relevant to the patient population
