Senior Project Manager (Gas Plant)
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday to Friday

Position Summary:
The Senior Project Manager  is responsible for the full coordination and execution of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects. This role oversees every phase of project delivery, from concept to closeout, ensuring scope adherence, budget control, schedule management, and overall client satisfaction.

As the key leader of the project team, the PM directs cross-functional efforts, manages project risks, and ensures quality deliverables. With a focus on oil and gas facilities—particularly midstream and gas processing plants—the PM will apply technical expertise and leadership to achieve project success. Ideally, this role is filled by a degreed engineer with deep industry experience to facilitate effective communication with clients and uphold high-quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

General Project Leadership:

  • Oversee project planning, approvals, and execution in alignment with company processes and standards.

  • Lead project teams and coordinate across departments to meet or exceed project goals (scope, cost, schedule, quality, client satisfaction).

  • Serve as the primary client contact, ensuring strong relationships and open communication throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Manage and approve project time charges, invoicing, and bid recommendations.

  • Proactively identify and mitigate project risks to maximize profitability.

  • Maintain responsibility for overall project quality, schedule adherence, and financial performance.

  • Review and approve budget variance reports and implement mitigation plans as needed.

  • Prepare weekly project progress reports and submit as required.

  • Lead CHAIR log maintenance and facilitate lessons learned sessions.

Phase-Specific Duties:

Negotiation Phase:

  • Collaborate with Sales, Management, and Marketing teams to align technical and procurement scopes.

  • Assist in proposal development, including estimates and budgets.

Project Initiation:

  • Ensure smooth handover from Sales to project execution.

  • Build and organize project teams.

  • Develop comprehensive Project Execution Plans (PEP) and project schedules.

  • Conduct internal and customer kickoff meetings.

Project Execution:

  • Manage customer communications and ensure high client satisfaction.

  • Maintain scope, schedule, and budget control.

  • Oversee engineering design reviews and ensure quality compliance.

  • Approve procurement of equipment and materials.

  • Lead effective internal and external project communications.

  • Identify scope changes and manage the change order process from development through approval.

  • Mentor and evaluate project team members.

  • Perform project risk assessments and implement appropriate controls.

  • Approve all subcontracting work and coordinate field activities.

  • Oversee checkout, startup, warranty coverage, and issue resolution.

Project Closeout:

  • Complete project closeout documentation and participate in archival processes.

  • Document best practices and lessons learned.

  • Conduct project closeout meetings with internal teams and clients.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 8 years of Project Management experience in gas plant design, including gas treating, refrigeration, and cryogenic systems.

  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams and client relationships.

  • Proficiency in managing project scope, cost, and schedule within a structured project management framework.

  • Strong understanding of change management processes and documentation.

  • Advanced problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook).

  • Willingness to travel 10–20% of the time.

  • Strong focus on safety in all environments.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods.

  • Ability to work in operational environments, including refineries, plants, and construction sites.

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs as needed, and enter confined spaces occasionally.

  • Ability to carry up to 20 pounds over a distance of 1/4 mile.

  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods.

  • Must be able to quickly evacuate work sites in case of emergencies.

  • Ability to travel, stay in hotels, navigate unfamiliar locations, and use various transportation methods.

  • Must be fluent in English (written and spoken).
