Senior Electrical Engineer (Oil and Gas)

Position Summary:
The Senior Electrical Engineer is a licensed professional with expertise across multiple technical areas, responsible for supporting projects throughout all phases—from bidding to design, construction, and quality assurance. This role focuses on medium and low voltage power distribution for industrial facilities, including oil and gas operations.

As a key technical leader, the Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as the Engineer of Record, ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and quality of electrical design documents and studies. The role involves active collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams, client interaction, mentoring junior engineers, and providing strategic guidance from project inception to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Electrical Engineer of Record for medium and large-scale industrial EPC projects, including providing technical direction and sealing design documents.

  • Perform comprehensive engineering tasks, including consultation, design, equipment selection, coordination, safety review, and technical checking.

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, supporting professional development and performance excellence.

  • Lead, audit, and guide project teams, including taking on supervisory responsibilities as needed.

  • Engage directly with clients to scope, develop, and execute projects effectively.

  • Prepare proposals for new projects and opportunities.

  • Provide written project progress updates to clients and internal leadership.

  • Manage assigned tasks from the Director of Electrical Engineering, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.

Skills, Experience, and Attributes:

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and mentoring abilities.

  • Self-motivated with the capacity to manage multiple projects independently.

  • In-depth understanding of medium and low voltage power distribution in industrial settings.

  • Ability to provide clear technical direction to both technical and non-technical personnel and subcontractors.

  • Proven experience managing stakeholder relationships and delivering client satisfaction.

  • Confidence in making independent, high-impact project decisions.

  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally with other engineering disciplines.

  • Proficiency with electrical modeling software such as SKM or ETAP (strongly preferred).

  • Experience negotiating with power companies (highly desirable).

  • Extensive knowledge of three-phase motor control equipment, including reduced voltage starters and variable frequency drives.

  • Recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) in multiple engineering areas.

  • Experience in oil and gas treatment and processing environments (preferred).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and high-quality documentation.

  • Passion for teaching, coaching, and developing engineering talent.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering.

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; multi-state licensure preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, ideally within the oil and gas industry.

Operational & Physical Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a client-focused approach.

  • Willingness to travel 10–20% of the time.

  • Commitment to safety-first practices in all environments.

  • Ability to work extended hours as required.

  • Comfortable working at a desk for prolonged periods, as well as on-site at industrial facilities.

  • Capable of climbing ladders, navigating process equipment, and accessing elevated work areas.

  • Valid driver’s license for passenger vehicles and light trucks.

  • Ability to walk at least ½ mile across uneven terrain.

  • Able to carry up to 20 pounds over a distance of ¼ mile.

  • Fluent in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in hazardous environments, such as refineries, chemical plants, and gas processing facilities.

  • Capable of traveling to unfamiliar locations, utilizing hotels, rental vehicles, and public transportation as needed for project work.
