A publicly traded global manufacturer of sustainable paper products is hiring a Production Supervisor for its Ashland, Virginia mill. This 200 employee, non union facility runs 24/7 and is seeking a hands on leader to oversee daily paper machine operations, drive safety and quality performance, and develop a high performing operations team. This role is positioned to move into a Production Manager role later. Relocation assistance is available.
Schedule
This is a full time, 100% onsite role. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 7am to 4pm, supporting a 24/7 continuous manufacturing operation.
Compensation
$125,000 to $150,000 base, depending on experience, plus an annual profit sharing bonus.
What You'll Do
The Production Supervisor will lead daily operations of the paper machine, reporting to the Maintenance Manager. This role is responsible for managing shift performance to consistently meet safety, quality, reliability, and production targets, while coaching and developing operators and crew leads in a continuous manufacturing environment. The Supervisor will partner closely with maintenance, engineering, and quality teams to troubleshoot operational issues, improve machine performance, and reduce downtime. A key part of the role involves leading continuous improvement initiatives using lean methodologies, identifying root causes of recurring problems, and standardizing best practices across shifts. The Supervisor will also support planning and scheduling for the operation, manage change effectively as new processes or equipment are introduced, and serve as a key point of contact between frontline teams and plant leadership.
This position is structured as a growth path, with the successful candidate expected to move into a Production Manager role later as they demonstrate strong performance.
Required Qualifications

Proven experience in a paper machine or continuous process manufacturing leadership role

Strong working knowledge of paper machine operations, quality control, and reliability practices

Experience leading and developing hourly production teams in a 24/7 manufacturing environment

Demonstrated experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies

Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Paper Science, or a related technical field

Experience in a non union manufacturing facility

Familiarity with change management practices in a plant environment

Prior experience progressing from a supervisory to a superintendent or manager level role
