Principal Electrical Engineer
Ronkonkoma, NY | Full Time

This company is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership across the full product lifecycle for harsh environment electronics, from requirements and architecture through qualification, production, and sustainment. The role covers a varied product line supporting multiple customers in a well established engineering organization.

Full time.

Compensation
$170,000 to $210,000 per year, based on experience.

What You’ll Do
This engineer performs innovative analog and digital hardware design, analysis, simulation, and verification for harsh environment applications, and develops clear requirements and design documentation while presenting designs at technical reviews. The role involves optimizing complex design tradeoffs across performance, cost, schedule, and risk, and supporting manufacturing, suppliers, and legacy products through hands on troubleshooting and analysis. This person also mentors engineers, contributes to proposals and cost estimates, and supports technical hiring decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering

  • 15+ years of experience in analog and digital circuit design, including A/D conversion, processors and microcontrollers, and I/O and communications

  • Strong background in power electronics, including MOSFET, IGBT, SiC, and GaN devices

  • Experience with DC/DC converters and compliance with MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-704, DO-160, and MIL-STD-461

  • Expertise in thermal, electrical stress, worst-case, tolerance, aging, FMEA, EMI, and radiation (SEU, TID) analyses

  • Proficiency in PWB layout for high power, high voltage, and EMI compliant designs

  • Knowledge of communication protocols including CAN, RS-232/422/485, SPI, JTAG, PCI/PCIe, and 1G/10G Ethernet

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering

  • Experience with motor control, control theory, Z-domain analysis, and Clark and Park transforms

  • Experience with sensor interfaces such as LVDT, resolvers, and encoders

  • Proficiency with CAD and simulation tools such as LT-Spice, P-Spice, OrCAD, Allegro, and MATLAB/Simulink

Compensation and Benefits

  • $170,000 to $210,000 per year, based on experience
