Instrument & Control Technician II

A simple cycle gas power plant is seeking an Instrument & Control Technician II (Senior Technician) to perform operations, testing, maintenance, and administrative functions on a distributed control system (DCS) and all associated field devices, including the Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS). This role reports to the Operations and Maintenance Manager.

Schedule: Full-time, with occasional travel and availability to support job responsibilities outside scheduled work hours as needed.

Compensation: $50.00 to $60.00 per hour, based on experience.

What You'll Do:

The IC&E Technician administers processes and procedures as required by the O&M Manager, including identifying and implementing on-condition tasks, evaluating recommended changes based on cost and benefit, and specifying instrument and electrical changes as required. This role computes and analyzes test data, uses installed and portable test equipment and technical manuals to troubleshoot equipment and systems, and monitors, maintains, and reviews system startup procedures to determine control and electrical personnel support requirements.

The technician performs both routine and non-routine preventive and corrective maintenance on plant equipment, maintains and calibrates plant instrumentation and control devices, and reviews P&I drawings and logic diagrams. This includes creating procedures related to instrumentation and electrical systems, coordinating job planning, work methods, job standards, and job reporting, and communicating the condition of plant systems and equipment to others.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining and upkeeping site buildings and grounds, operating plant mobile equipment such as forklifts and man lifts, maintaining documentation records of calibration, tests, and certifications, and assisting other plant personnel as needed. Completion of the O&M Tech I qualification process is required within 2 years of hire date.

Required Qualifications:

• Two-year technical degree and 5+ years of power plant and/or industrial electrical, instrumentation, or electronics experience, or significant equivalent experience in lieu of a degree
• Working knowledge of combined cycle power plant systems, power plant operations and maintenance, electrical principles, work practices, procedures, and materials
• Ability to interpret control drawings and P&IDs
• Ability to make maintenance-related decisions with minimal direct supervision
• Knowledge of instrumentation test equipment, including signal generators, relay test sets, oscilloscopes, and computers
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong mechanical aptitude with an understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity, and mathematics
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness
• Basic computer knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and similar programs
• Valid U.S. driver's license with an acceptable driving record, if applicable

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), GE Mark VI, ABB Bailey INFI 90, various PLC controllers, and Teledyne Monitor Labs CEMS controls and equipment
• Programming and configuration capabilities
• Knowledge of industry-related CEM system hardware, software, and reporting
