Heavy Civil Field Safety Specialist - Border Wall

Laredo, TX | $85,000 to $110,000 per year | Full-time

A heavy civil contractor has been awarded a multi-year federal contract to continue construction of the U.S. Border Wall in South Texas. It is hiring a Field Safety Specialist to support the site safety program in the field. The project covers more than 60 miles of barrier wall, along with patrol road construction and repair, bridges, boat ramps, and electrical, lighting, and detection system installation. The Field Safety Specialist will be based in the Laredo, TX area for the length of the project.

Schedule

Full-time, on-site at the project in the Laredo, TX area. Candidates must live near the project for its duration.

Compensation

$85,000 to $110,000 per year, based on experience.

What You'll Do

You will be the day-to-day safety presence on active work fronts along a linear project that stretches across more than 60 miles. You will conduct field inspections, review Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) and pre-task plans with crews before work starts, and correct unsafe conditions on the spot.

You will oversee subcontractor safety performance and follow up on corrective actions. You will focus on high-risk heavy civil hazards, including excavation and trenching, heavy equipment, lifting operations, and traffic control along patrol roads. You will support the Site Safety and Health Officer with documentation, incident reporting, safety orientations, and toolbox talks, and help keep the project compliant with USACE EM 385-1-1 requirements.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of construction safety experience
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification
• Hands-on experience with field inspections, AHAs or pre-task planning, subcontractor oversight, and corrective actions
• Experience managing excavation, heavy equipment, lifting, traffic control, and similar field hazards
• Current First Aid and CPR certification
• Ability to live in the Laredo, TX area for the length of the project
• Resume must clearly list each project's type, your role, project value, delivery method, and federal agency where applicable

Preferred Qualifications

• Heavy civil, linear infrastructure, roadway, utility, or pipeline construction experience
• Working knowledge of USACE EM 385-1-1
• Federal construction experience
• CHST or STS certification
• Traffic control or work zone safety certification
• Experience supporting safety across dispersed work sites
